GEOS renamed their git development head branch from 'master' to 'main' in March 2021 (ref).

@mwtoews mwtoews force-pushed the geos-main branch 2 times, most recently from db9ab85 to 4654d8d Compare June 8, 2021 03:26

@mwtoews I'd be in favor of doing the same here.

@sgillies I'd support that too. It would probably make sense to do two changes at once: move repo to https://github.com/shapely/shapely (discussed in #819) and rename the head branch to main.

It's a matter of timing and tasks related to #962

Also +1 on renaming to "main" (I only need to update my local scripts/aliases to handle both master and main for a while .. ;))

It could be done at the same time, but I don't think that's necessary. The fact that the content of the "shapely-2.0" branch will move the the master/main branch in the future, doesn't prevent already renaming the current master branch right now.

And also +1 on moving to the github.com/shapely org. It will be good to have the different repo's (shapely-wheels, rfc) in a single organization.
