Our git repo [history] is unreasonably large and it causes problems whenever the user's connection is not fast enough, or github is slow in a certain region (I have been trying to clone a fresh copy for the past two hours and unless I connect to a vpn outside europe it seems to be failing).

We have talked about cleaning up the history of removed artifacts and that we don't necessarily need the 10 years history we have right now.

It'd be nice to clean it up and make it much smaller. Of course any cleanup shouldn't touch the existing git blame.
