The first sentence is unclear to me. Do you mean one of the following things?
(a) Intel will discontinue granting access to the Intel portal that enables running SDE on hardware starting January 1, 2026. Anyone wishing access to this software must request it before that date, or risk never having access to that software.
(b) Intel will open source all software required to run SDE on hardware on January 1, 2026, and thus it will no longer be necessary to request this software from Intel after that date.
(c) something else?

Hi Andy,
It is (a) . I can change it to the following if it is much clearer
Intel will discontinue the requirement to request BSP and driver access
through the Intel portal for running SDE on hardware. , This change will
take effect on January 1, 2026. Open source community members who submit
requests before this deadline will still be granted access. With the open
sourced Tofino SDE you can still run simulation model.

@sai-pracheetha Anyone we can reach out to about this? It would be a shame if this software were lost forever.

@fruffy Software is not lost forever. Existing customers can continue to use BSP and drivers. There is just no funding for granting access to BSP/drivers through Intel portal for new users.

That seems to be effectively the same thing. Anyone who does not have the BSP now or lost it at some point will lose access to it forever. Unless there are still other means to acquire it. If there are it would be good to add them here.

@sai-pracheetha Your suggested replacement is not any clearer to me. In particular, "discontinue the requirement to request access" sounds like you are trying to say that you will not have to request access any more, which sounds more like my proposed wording of (b) above. That is, it sounds like the opposite of (a).

Here is a different suggested wording that I find clearer, that means something similar to (a).
"Open source members who submit requests for BSP and driver software for running the SDE on hardware before January 1, 2026 will be granted. Intel will discontinue granting such requests on that date."

This certainly looks clearer to me, and if true and Intel is unable to be convinced otherwise, this seems like a good note to have in the repository.
