Some benefits:

  1. Consistency between menus and statusbar text within Notepad++ itself.
  2. Better consistency with the names used by other applications.
  3. More information (and more accurate information) visible to the user, leading to more confidence that the particular line ending characters that will be used match what they expect.

I don't think there's any inconsistency between menu and status bar for eol.
However, I'll think about CRLF, LF and CR on menu.
