Our README is out-of-date by quite a lot, but also our docs/ directory does not reflect recent changes to scalar clone. Specifically, it does not mention that it will fall back to partial clone if the GVFS protocol does not exist.

Correct these out-of-date files and be sure to keep the docs current in the future.
