Not related, just to illustrate the inconsistency we have with the "check" mark position in select mode in Collections, File searcher, Bookmarks versus the File browser main window.

It would not look too odd: hamburger on the left like in other places, and as no close button needed, the home button there would feel right.

I have no problem with the current inconsistency. The file browser is a "main" app, it does not have a close button, ok, so it gets something else. The check mark is rarely seen/used, so that's not an inconsistency that is in my face.
But indeed, the folder tree would look odd if right aligned. I think you already proposed/mentionned that in the past.

I think it's time to cancel the star as an annotation marker.
The star marks books in collections and folders with shortcuts.
So we can use the bookmark sign in the SkimWidget and in the status bar:

Not if standalone. Only if/when/with everything "Bookmarks" becomes "Annotations" (menus, widget title), for consistency.

Hint for book status (reading, on hold, finished) is shown in the bottom right corner of the book thumbnail (mosaic mode).
This setting shows/hides the hint when browsing collections.

There is no setting to show/hide the collection star, except removing a book from a collection.

Oh yeah, this was going to be Show visual cue for open books in collections in #11792 but 😬 that was discarded so... i now think it would be better as Show visual cue (in collections) for open books

Could we please have an option to hide the star? pretty please.
