This pull request is created by automatic cherry pick workflow
Please fill in the form below, and a flutter domain expert will evaluate this cherry pick request.

Issue Link:

What is the link to the issue this cherry-pick is addressing?

#185035

Impact Description:

What is the impact (ex. visual jank on Samsung phones, app crash, cannot ship an iOS app)?
Does it impact development (ex. flutter doctor crashes when Android Studio is installed),
or the shipping of production apps (the app crashes on launch).
This information is for domain experts and release engineers to understand the consequences of saying yes or no to the cherry pick.

When building for iOS or macOS, the build may fail due to missing Package.resolved. This happens when using SwiftPM and remote dependencies.

Changelog Description:

Explain this cherry pick:

  • In one line that is accessible to most Flutter developers.
  • That describes the state prior to the fix.
  • That includes which platforms are impacted.
    See best practices for examples.

< Replace with changelog description here >
[flutter/185035] When building for iOS or macOS, the build may fail if using remote Swift package dependencies.

Workaround:

Is there a workaround for this issue?

Disable SwiftPM (flutter config --no-enable-swift-package-manager)

Risk:

What is the risk level of this cherry-pick?

  • Low
  • Medium
  • High

Test Coverage:

Are you confident that your fix is well-tested by automated tests?

  • Yes
  • No

Validation Steps:

What are the steps to validate that this fix works?

Use a plugin with a remote dependency like firebase, delete the Package.resolved and then try to build

Disabling it causes problems if it hasn't resolved before so let's just
remove it. In actuality, it did not seem to improve build time anyways.

Fixes flutter#185035.

Code Review

This pull request renames the xcodebuildProjectCommand method to fetchDependenciesAndGenerateXcodebuildArgs and updates the skipPackageResolution parameter to skipPackageUpdatesAndValidation across the iOS and macOS build logic. It also removes the -disableAutomaticPackageResolution flag from the xcodebuild command. Feedback was provided regarding the placement of documentation for the new parameter, suggesting it be moved to the public method to adhere to the style guide.

While documenting private methods is good practice, this documentation for skipPackageUpdatesAndValidation should be on the public fetchDependenciesAndGenerateXcodebuildArgs method instead. The style guide requires all public members to be documented, and developers consuming this class will only see the public API documentation. Moving this comment would improve discoverability for users of this class.
