Turns out all implementations of this method made this call, so it seems like it should belong in the superclass.

I agree, thanks for moving this. We're aiming for text editing behavior to depend on platform instead of Material/Cupertino, which is aligned with calling this in editable_text.dart and not in (Cupertino)TextField.
