Thank you @martijnvg ! I think this is a nicer, narrower mute than #138820. To verify that it works correctly, though, I think we need to revert #138820 as part of it, as the mixed cluster bwc tests shouldn't even run for this PR's CI. |

Unmute the test and disable the failing assertion (similar to elastic#138829). This will need to be reverted when elastic#138796 is resolved.
