Root Cause :

On iOS 26, UIProgressView subviews no longer inherit semantic content automatically, causing incorrect RTL rendering when FlowDirection changes.

Description of Change :

  • Added mapping for FlowDirection in the ProgressBarHandler.Mapper for iOS and Mac Catalyst, enabling the handler to respond to flow direction changes.
  • Implemented the MapFlowDirection method in ProgressBarHandler.iOS.cs to update the SemanticContentAttribute of the progress bar and its subviews, ensuring correct layout direction, especially for iOS 26+ where subviews need explicit updates.
  • Added helper methods GetSemanticContentAttribute and GetParentSemanticContentAttribute to determine the appropriate semantic content attribute based on the progress bar's or its parent's flow direction.

Issue: #33969 - [iOS] Flow direction not works on ProgressBar on iOS 26
PR: #34015 - [iOS] Fixed ProgressBar Flow Direction on iOS26
Author: SubhikshaSf4851 (community contributor, Syncfusion partner)
Platforms Affected: iOS 26+ (MacCatalyst also affected via same code path)

Issue Summary

On iOS 26, UIProgressView subviews no longer automatically inherit SemanticContentAttribute from the parent view. Previously, setting SemanticContentAttribute = .forceRightToLeft on a UIProgressView was sufficient for RTL layout. On iOS 26+, this inheritance is broken, and the fill direction remains LTR even when RTL is requested.

Additionally, ProgressBarHandler had no FlowDirection mapping at all prior to this PR.

Prior Agent Review

A prior agent review was completed on commit 156ebc9 that recommended REQUEST CHANGES with:

  1. Remove unused using CoreGraphics; → ✅ ADDRESSED in latest commit
  2. Add null check to MapFlowDirection → ✅ ADDRESSED
  3. Add MacCatalyst version guard → ✅ ADDRESSED
  4. Fix indentation → ✅ ADDRESSED
  5. Change MapFlowDirection from internal to public static → ❌ STILL PRESENT
  6. Consider simplifying with UpdateFlowDirection() → Not addressed (acceptable)

There is also 1 unresolved review thread from copilot-pull-request-reviewer:

GetParentSemanticContentAttribute uses virtual view parent (IView.FlowDirection) rather than platform parent (view.Parent?.Handler?.PlatformView as UIView), inconsistent with ViewExtensions.GetParentMatchingSemanticContentAttribute

Files Changed

Fix Files (2)

  • src/Core/src/Handlers/ProgressBar/ProgressBarHandler.cs (+4/-1)
    • Adds FlowDirection mapping in Mapper under #if __IOS__ || MACCATALYST
  • src/Core/src/Handlers/ProgressBar/ProgressBarHandler.iOS.cs (+50/-1)
    • Adds MapFlowDirection, GetSemanticContentAttribute, GetParentSemanticContentAttribute

Test/Snapshot Files (1)

  • src/Controls/tests/TestCases.iOS.Tests/snapshots/ios-26/ProgressBar_ChangeFlowDirection_RTL_VerifyLabel.png (binary snapshot update)

Current Code Issues

  1. MapFlowDirection is internal static — should be public static to match MapProgress and MapProgressColor in same file, and to match other handlers (e.g., TimePickerHandler.iOS.cs, GraphicsViewHandler.iOS.cs)
  2. GetParentSemanticContentAttribute uses virtual view parent — reads parentView.FlowDirection instead of view.Parent?.Handler?.PlatformView as UIView's SemanticContentAttribute. Framework pattern (ViewExtensions.GetParentMatchingSemanticContentAttribute) reads from the native platform parent to get actual rendered state, not FlowDirection enum value

Tests WITH fix PASS PASS

Analysis

Gate ran on iOS 18.6 (only booted simulator available), but the bug is iOS 26-specific. On iOS 18.6, UIProgressView still correctly propagates SemanticContentAttribute to its subviews, so the test passes regardless of whether the fix is present.

This is the same environment limitation as the prior agent review. No iOS 26 simulator was available/booted.

What Was Tested

  • Platform: ios (iOS 18.6)
  • Test: ProgressBar_ChangeFlowDirection_RTL_VerifyLabel
  • Result: PASSES both with and without fix on iOS 18.6 (expected - bug doesn't exist on iOS 18.6)

Gate Conclusion

Gate FAILED due to environment limitation (no iOS 26 simulator). The test itself is correct for detecting the bug on iOS 26. This is NOT a test quality issue - it's a simulator availability constraint. Proceeding to Fix and Report phases based on code review.

Note: try-fix models could not execute actual tests due to iOS 26 simulator unavailability (same environment limitation as Gate). Code review based analysis used instead.

Exhausted: Yes (environment blocker prevents empirical testing on iOS 26)
Selected Fix: PR's fix - The approach is correct. Author has addressed most prior review issues.

Remaining Code Issues (Not Fixed by Author)

  1. MapFlowDirection is internal static (line 24 of ProgressBarHandler.iOS.cs)

    • Should be public static to match MapProgress, MapProgressColor, and other handlers (TimePickerHandler.iOS.cs, GraphicsViewHandler.iOS.cs all use public static)
    • Handler map methods registered in Mapper should be public to allow external overrides
  2. GetParentSemanticContentAttribute uses virtual view parent (unresolved review thread)

    • Current: reads parentView.FlowDirection (virtual enum value)
    • Framework pattern (ViewExtensions.GetParentMatchingSemanticContentAttribute): reads view.Parent?.Handler?.PlatformView as UIView's SemanticContentAttribute (actual rendered state)
    • The framework approach is more accurate: reads from native platform hierarchy, handles cases where parent FlowDirection is also MatchParent
  3. Missing trailing newline in ProgressBarHandler.iOS.cs (file ends without \n)

📋 Report — Final Recommendation

⚠️ Final Recommendation: REQUEST CHANGES

Summary

PR #34015 fixes a valid iOS 26 regression where UIProgressView subviews no longer inherit SemanticContentAttribute automatically, causing incorrect RTL rendering for ProgressBar. The author has addressed most issues from the prior agent review. Two issues remain unaddressed, including one open unresolved review thread.

Gate Status

Gate: ❌ FAILED (Environment Limitation)

  • Test ran on iOS 18.6 simulator (only booted device available)
  • Bug is iOS 26-specific: on iOS 18.6 tests pass both with and without the fix
  • iOS 26 simulator not available in test environment (same limitation as prior review)
  • The test ProgressBar_ChangeFlowDirection_RTL_VerifyLabel is correct for iOS 26

Root Cause

On iOS 26, UIProgressView changed behavior: internal subviews no longer automatically inherit SemanticContentAttribute from their parent. Setting SemanticContentAttribute = .forceRightToLeft on the UIProgressView was sufficient pre-iOS 26. On iOS 26+, each subview must be updated explicitly.

Additionally, ProgressBarHandler had no FlowDirection mapping at all, meaning the platform view was never notified of flow direction changes. Prior iOS versions may have worked through UIKit inheritance, but iOS 26 exposed the gap.

What the Author Fixed Since Prior Review

Since the prior review (commit 156ebc9d81c6a3), the author addressed:

  • ✅ Added null check for handler.PlatformView in MapFlowDirection
  • ✅ Removed unused using CoreGraphics;
  • ✅ Added OperatingSystem.IsMacCatalystVersionAtLeast(26) guard alongside the iOS 26 check
  • ✅ Fixed indentation in ProgressBarHandler.cs

Remaining Issues

1. MapFlowDirection access modifier: internal → should be public static

File: src/Core/src/Handlers/ProgressBar/ProgressBarHandler.iOS.cs:24

// Current (wrong):
internal static void MapFlowDirection(IProgressBarHandler handler, IProgress progress)

// Should be (consistent with MapProgress, MapProgressColor, and other handlers):
public static void MapFlowDirection(IProgressBarHandler handler, IProgress progress)

Evidence: MapProgress and MapProgressColor in the same file are public static. Other handlers with MapFlowDirection (e.g., TimePickerHandler.iOS.cs, GraphicsViewHandler.iOS.cs) also use public static. Handler mapper methods must be public to allow external customization.

2. GetParentSemanticContentAttribute uses virtual parent's FlowDirection (unresolved review thread)

File: src/Core/src/Handlers/ProgressBar/ProgressBarHandler.iOS.cs:57-70

The current implementation reads from the virtual view's FlowDirection property when handling MatchParent:

// Current (inconsistent with framework):
var parentView = (progress as IView)?.Parent as IView;
return parentView.FlowDirection switch { ... }

The framework pattern in ViewExtensions.GetParentMatchingSemanticContentAttribute reads from the native platform parent's actual SemanticContentAttribute:

// Framework pattern (correct):
var parent = view.Parent?.Handler?.PlatformView as UIView;
var parentSemanticContentAttribute = parent.SemanticContentAttribute;

This matters because: reading FlowDirection from the virtual parent may be MatchParent itself (infinite conceptual recursion), while reading the native parent's SemanticContentAttribute reflects the actual rendered state after its own UpdateFlowDirection was applied. The unresolved review thread from copilot-pull-request-reviewer specifically calls this out.

Suggested fix:

static UISemanticContentAttribute GetParentSemanticContentAttribute(IProgress progress)
{
    var parent = (progress as IView)?.Parent?.Handler?.PlatformView as UIView;
    if (parent is null)
        return UISemanticContentAttribute.Unspecified;

    var attr = parent.SemanticContentAttribute;
    if (attr == UISemanticContentAttribute.ForceLeftToRight ||
        attr == UISemanticContentAttribute.ForceRightToLeft)
        return attr;

    return UISemanticContentAttribute.Unspecified;
}

3. Missing trailing newline in ProgressBarHandler.iOS.cs

The file ends with } but no final \n. POSIX requires text files to end with a newline.

What's Good

  • ✅ Correct use of OperatingSystem.IsIOSVersionAtLeast(26) || OperatingSystem.IsMacCatalystVersionAtLeast(26) version guard
  • #if __IOS__ || MACCATALYST preprocessor guard in mapper correctly scopes the change
  • ✅ Null check for handler.PlatformView present
  • ✅ Inline comment explaining why subviews need explicit update on iOS 26
  • ✅ Snapshot ProgressBar_ChangeFlowDirection_RTL_VerifyLabel.png updated for ios-26
  • ✅ Author has been responsive to feedback

PR Title/Description

  • Title [iOS] Fixed ProgressBar Flow Direction on iOS26 — "Fixed" should be present tense "Fix" per MAUI convention; recommend [iOS] Fix ProgressBar FlowDirection RTL rendering on iOS 26
  • Also applies to MacCatalyst (could include [iOS/MacCatalyst])
  • Description body is complete and accurate

Changes Requested

  1. Change MapFlowDirection from internal static to public static
  2. Update GetParentSemanticContentAttribute to use view.Parent?.Handler?.PlatformView as UIView pattern (matching framework, resolves unresolved review thread)
  3. Add trailing newline to end of ProgressBarHandler.iOS.cs
  4. Update PR title: [iOS] Fix ProgressBar FlowDirection RTL rendering on iOS 26

Root Cause

On iOS 26, UIProgressView changed internal behavior: its subviews no longer automatically inherit SemanticContentAttribute from the parent view. Prior to iOS 26, setting SemanticContentAttribute = .forceRightToLeft on the UIProgressView was sufficient for correct RTL layout. On iOS 26+, each internal subview must be updated explicitly.

Additionally, ProgressBarHandler had no FlowDirection mapping at all prior to this PR — the platform view was never notified when the app's flow direction changed. On earlier iOS versions this may have appeared to work through UIKit's implicit inheritance, but iOS 26 exposed the gap.

Description of Change

  • Added a FlowDirection property mapping in ProgressBarHandler.Mapper scoped to #if __IOS__ || MACCATALYST.
  • Implemented MapFlowDirection in ProgressBarHandler.iOS.cs to:
    1. Set SemanticContentAttribute on the UIProgressView based on the view's FlowDirection.
    2. On iOS/MacCatalyst 26+, additionally iterate the progress view's internal subviews and set SemanticContentAttribute on each, since iOS 26 broke automatic inheritance.
  • Added GetSemanticContentAttribute helper to map FlowDirectionUISemanticContentAttribute (with MatchParent delegating to parent view lookup).
  • Added GetParentSemanticContentAttribute helper to resolve the semantic content attribute from the virtual view parent when FlowDirection is MatchParent.
  • Updated snapshot ProgressBar_ChangeFlowDirection_RTL_VerifyLabel.png for iOS 26.

Platforms affected:

  • iOS 26+ (primary regression target)
  • MacCatalyst 26+ (same code path; #if __IOS__ || MACCATALYST)
  • Android / Windows — unaffected (no code change)

🟡 Suggestions

1. MapFlowDirection access modifier should be public static, not internal

File: src/Core/src/Handlers/ProgressBar/ProgressBarHandler.iOS.cs, line 24

Current:

internal static void MapFlowDirection(IProgressBarHandler handler, IProgress progress)

Problem: All handler mapper methods that are registered in Mapper are conventionally public static to allow external consumers to override them. Both sibling methods in this file (MapProgress and MapProgressColor) are public static. Other handlers with MapFlowDirection (e.g., TimePickerHandler.iOS.cs, GraphicsViewHandler.iOS.cs) also use public static. Declaring it internal breaks the established convention and prevents external customization.

Recommended fix:

public static void MapFlowDirection(IProgressBarHandler handler, IProgress progress)

2. GetParentSemanticContentAttribute uses virtual view parent instead of native platform parent (unresolved review thread)

File: src/Core/src/Handlers/ProgressBar/ProgressBarHandler.iOS.cs, lines 57–70

Current:

static UISemanticContentAttribute GetParentSemanticContentAttribute(IProgress progress)
{
    var parentView = (progress as IView)?.Parent as IView;
    if (parentView is null)
    {
        return UISemanticContentAttribute.Unspecified;
    }

    return parentView.FlowDirection switch
    {
        FlowDirection.LeftToRight => UISemanticContentAttribute.ForceLeftToRight,
        FlowDirection.RightToLeft => UISemanticContentAttribute.ForceRightToLeft,
        _ => UISemanticContentAttribute.Unspecified,
    };
}

Problem: The method reads FlowDirection from the virtual/managed parent view. This is inconsistent with the framework pattern in ViewExtensions.GetParentMatchingSemanticContentAttribute, which reads the native platform parent's actual SemanticContentAttribute. Reading FlowDirection from the managed parent may return MatchParent (i.e., Unspecified) if the parent itself hasn't resolved its direction yet, while reading from the native UIView hierarchy reflects the actual rendered state after UpdateFlowDirection was applied to each level. This is also the unresolved review thread from copilot-pull-request-reviewer.

Recommended fix (matching framework pattern):

static UISemanticContentAttribute GetParentSemanticContentAttribute(IProgress progress)
{
    var parent = (progress as IView)?.Parent?.Handler?.PlatformView as UIKit.UIView;
    if (parent is null)
        return UISemanticContentAttribute.Unspecified;

    var attr = parent.SemanticContentAttribute;
    if (attr == UISemanticContentAttribute.ForceLeftToRight ||
        attr == UISemanticContentAttribute.ForceRightToLeft)
        return attr;

    return UISemanticContentAttribute.Unspecified;
}

3. Missing trailing newline at end of ProgressBarHandler.iOS.cs

File: src/Core/src/Handlers/ProgressBar/ProgressBarHandler.iOS.cs (end of file)

The file ends with } followed by no newline character (the diff shows \ No newline at end of file). POSIX text files should end with a newline. This causes minor issues with some diff tools.

✅ Looks Good

  • Correct iOS 26 version guard: OperatingSystem.IsIOSVersionAtLeast(26) || OperatingSystem.IsMacCatalystVersionAtLeast(26) is the right API. Both platforms are guarded correctly.
  • #if __IOS__ || MACCATALYST scope in mapper: Correctly limits the FlowDirection mapper entry to only the platforms where it's needed, no impact on Android/Windows.
  • Null check present: if (progressbar is null) { return; } prevents NullReferenceException when PlatformView is null.
  • Inline comment on iOS 26 subview behavior: The comment explaining why subviews need explicit updates on iOS 26+ is clear and valuable for future maintainers.
  • using System; added correctly: Required for OperatingSystem static class, replaces the removed using CoreGraphics;.
  • Snapshot updated: ProgressBar_ChangeFlowDirection_RTL_VerifyLabel.png for ios-26 reflects the corrected RTL rendering.
  • Author responsiveness: The author addressed 4 of 6 issues from the prior agent review (null check, CoreGraphics removal, MacCatalyst guard, indentation).

## Description

Cherry-pick of
[`5d6e5a20`](dotnet@5d6e5a2)
from `net11.0`, adapted for `main`.

Fixes dotnet#34428

### Problem

Release 10.0.50 introduced a performance optimization (`_isSubscribed`
flag) in `TypedBinding` that prevented re-subscribing to intermediate
INPC objects when they changed. This caused compiled bindings with
nested property paths (e.g. `{Binding ViewModel.Text}`) to stop updating
when the intermediate object was replaced.

### Fix

Remove the `_isSubscribed` guard and always call `Subscribe()` on every
`Apply`. The `Subscribe()` implementation is already idempotent — it
diffs old vs new subscription targets — so calling it repeatedly is safe
with minimal overhead.

### Tests

Two regression tests added to `TypedBindingUnitTests.cs`:
-
`TypedBinding_NestedProperty_ResubscribesAfterNullIntermediateBecomesNonNull`
- `TypedBinding_NestedProperty_ResubscribesAfterIntermediateReplaced`

* Implemented the `MapFlowDirection` method in
`ProgressBarHandler.iOS.cs` to update the `SemanticContentAttribute` of
the progress bar and its subviews, ensuring correct layout direction,
especially for iOS 26+ where subviews need explicit updates.
* Added helper methods `GetSemanticContentAttribute` and
`GetParentSemanticContentAttribute` to determine the appropriate
semantic content attribute based on the progress bar's or its parent's
flow direction.
