Modifications in docs/spec/api.md will be overwritten from the template (docs/spec/api.md.tmpl). Can we fix that? cc @dave-tucker |

Also, can we add a commented big warning in the markdown so that people know they should edit the template instead? |

"prequisite" is a port manteau of pre and requisite.
