AFAICT there's no reason to check the host platform here. The test only runs the compiler; it doesn't execute the output.

Also add some build artifacts to .gitignore.
Note: These changes were already added to our internal copy of this repo a long time ago. I used a merge commit instead of a rebase to avoid de-syncing the two repos.
