Is there a chance to get information about when this gets merged into a stable release?
This currently prevents me from using the 6.0.x line ...

It will be in 6.0.1, but I don't know whether we have a schedule for that.

@iwalz, as a workaround you can use ESI as a remap plugin instead of a global plugin (I've tested this and it works in 6.0.0).
