Is your feature request related to a problem or challenge?

At some point we would like to migrate to the 2024 which contains some improvements to the language / compiler syntax and libraries, compile times (mainly doctests), etc.

We need to wait a bit (until at least 1.88 is released) until we can upgrade according to the policy

> cargo update
> cargo fix --edition

Followed by updating Rust version / edition and fixing issues
