This PR is worth merging.

When node 14 becomes LTS in October 2020, Renovate will send us a PR to update the version we use on Travis. Doing this upgrade via a PR (instead of having Travis use whatever version is the latest active lts) will give us the breathing space to make sure our toolchain and tests work on node 14, and avoid the annual surprise due to a new node release (see #19050, #25161 (comment), and #25209).
