Closes #1591

What

Adds summary_base_url config option to the compression block, allowing users to specify a custom OpenAI-compatible endpoint for the compression summarizer (e.g. zai, DeepSeek, Ollama).

Changes

  • hermes_cli/config.py: Added summary_base_url: null to DEFAULT_CONFIG
  • agent/auxiliary_client.py: _resolve_task_provider_model() now reads summary_base_url from the compression config block (backwards compat)

Usage

compression:
  enabled: true
  summary_model: glm-4.7
  summary_provider: zai
  summary_base_url: https://api.z.ai/api/coding/paas/v4

Backward Compatibility

Fully backward compatible — existing configs without summary_base_url work unchanged.

- Add summary_base_url config option to compression block for custom
OpenAI-compatible endpoints (e.g. zai, DeepSeek, Ollama)
- Remove compression env var bridges from cli.py and gateway/run.py
(CONTEXT_COMPRESSION_* env vars no longer set from config)
- Switch run_agent.py to read compression config directly from
  config.yaml instead of env vars
- Fix backwards-compat block in _resolve_task_provider_model to also
fire when auxiliary.compression.provider is 'auto' (DEFAULT_CONFIG
sets this, which was silently preventing the compression section's
  summary_* keys from being read)
- Add test for summary_base_url config-to-client flow
- Update docs to show compression as config.yaml-only

Merged via PR #1727. Your summary_base_url feature was incorporated and expanded — we also moved all compression config to YAML-only (removing the env var bridge layer), fixed a bug where summary_provider/summary_model from the compression block were silently ignored, and added comprehensive docs. Thanks for the contribution @uzaylisak!
