There is a comment in CitationKeyGeneratorTest:

The concrete patterns such as authorsAlpha should better be tested at {@link BracketedPatternTest}.

I had been working on this in a PR for another issue (JabRef#676) but think it should be separate. This could be a good second issue or for a university class.
