Closes #7862

Changes proposed in this pull request:

This is an implementation of the proposed feature. It allows entries to have a new field that will be updated whenever an item is marked as read/unerad or bookmark/removed from bookmarks. And a new sort criteria to sort by it.

I couldnt find any documentation about migrations but i think this is the way. I only tested this with sqlite, but i believe the others should work, its a copy-paste from the existing ones.

If you find this ok, i could continue with the tag implementation to also modify this date whenever a new tag is added or removed from an article. In this or another PR as preferred.

How to test the feature manually:

  1. Mark items from a feed as read/unread
  2. Mark items from a feed as bookmark / remove bookmark
  3. Sort by the new criteria

Pull request checklist:

  • clear commit messages
  • code manually tested
  • unit tests written (optional if too hard)
  • documentation updated

Additional information can be found in the documentation.

I think a migration needs to be done here

protected function autoUpdateDb(array $errorInfo): bool {

if ($errorInfo[0] === FreshRSS_DatabaseDAO::ER_BAD_FIELD_ERROR || $errorInfo[0] === FreshRSS_DatabaseDAOPGSQL::UNDEFINED_COLUMN) {
$errorLines = explode("\n", $errorInfo[2], 2); // The relevant column name is on the first line, other lines are noise
foreach (['attributes'] as $column) {
if (str_contains($errorLines[0], $column)) {
return $this->addColumn($column);

protected function addColumn(string $name): bool {

$this->pdo->commit();
}
Minz_Log::warning(__METHOD__ . ': ' . $name);
try {
if ($name === 'attributes') { //v1.20.0
$sql = <<<'SQL'
ALTER TABLE `_entry` ADD COLUMN attributes TEXT;
ALTER TABLE `_entrytmp` ADD COLUMN attributes TEXT;
SQL;
return $this->pdo->exec($sql) !== false;
}

(add the new lastUserModified column alongside attributes)

Suggested change
INDEX `entry_last_user_modified_index` (`lastUserModified`), -- v1.1.1
INDEX `entry_last_user_modified_index` (`lastUserModified`), -- v1.27.1

and in other places where v1.1.1 is used instead of 1.27.1 (or 1.28.0, not sure what the next release is so maybe put 1.27.1+)

It's also good to run make fix-all && make test-all to make sure the CI passes

I think now the pipeline should pass.
I haven't added new tests as i didnt find anything about how they should be created or one to use as an example.

Looks good at a quick glance 👍🏻
I think we will release a version 1.27.1 before merging this PR and target 1.28.0 for that one

I have not tested the code yet, but if I am not mistaken, I think it would be better to default to 0 here.
It is probably more desirable for new entries, not touched by the user, to have a value of 0.
Or this code could simply be removed to use the default value defined in SQL.

It does not like the case of adding/removing a label is covered, is it? It might be a bit more tricky to implement, though

Thats right, it isnt. I can make a new PR branching from this one or in this one itself, however you prefer

Wouldn't it be better to call this Last modified?

See discussion in #7862 (comment). Last modified could be about the article itself, so ideally it should be disambiguated. Something like User modified does that, even if it sounds a bit weird.

Pull Request Overview

This PR implements a "Last user modified" feature that tracks when users interact with RSS entries by adding a new lastUserModified field to the database schema and corresponding functionality. The feature allows sorting entries by when they were last modified by user actions (read/unread, bookmark/unbookmark).

Key changes:

  • Adds lastUserModified field to the entry database schema with migration support
  • Updates all entry modification operations to set the timestamp when users mark items as read/unread or bookmark/unbookmark
  • Adds new sorting option "User modified" with ascending/descending order in the UI
