A list of data tools that may be of use during Code the City
- Simile Exhibit V2 - navigate, visualise, and repurpose data sources including APIs, JSON, Sparql. (see the tutorial page on how to use this)
- Data Refine - used to be Google Refine. Very useful, very powerful. Watch the tutorial videos.
- Import.io - A free web-hosted service that promises further (maybe paid for) features. Looks like a great Help section with support, webinars etc.
- Morph - a web-based tool from OpenAustralia. Write scrapers in Ruby, Python or PHP.
- Portia - released recently, available via GitHub, soon to be made available as a hosted service.
- Tabula - Extracts tabular data from PDFs. Runs under Linux, Windows and Mac. Needs Java. See also: this article
- Appsterdam - Amsterdam's Open Data Community
- API Commons - A place to publish Open APIs
- City SDK
- Civic Exchange
- CKAN - an open source enterprise class Open Data platform used by many EU cities
- council toolkit
- GTFS - the General Transit Feed Specification
