Learn Life Savers is an online 30 minute lesson plan for teachers, which also includes a student lesson learning component. Life Savers is a presentation for high school students to encourage them to share their informed decisions about organ, eye and tissue donation with their loved ones by having a conversation…because the conversation matters.
We are available to present in person, virtually, recorded presentation, or combined educational experience incorporating learnlifesavers.com. Presentations are often offered but not limited to health, psychology, sociology, science, and driver’s education classes.
The Life Savers program is offered free of charge.
The presentation includes:
- What organs and tissues can be donated?
- Criteria for organ and tissue donors
- Presenting the top 5 myths regarding donation
- Explanation that signing a driver’s license is not enough
- Explanation that a conversation with your family is the most important step to becoming a donor
The Goal
Life Savers is designed to educate and empower individuals about donation and encourage them to share their decision with their loved ones….because the conversation matters.
In-Person Presentation
After a Life Savers Educator completes an “in person” presentation the students are asked to have a conversation with their family regarding donation. Gift of Life provides the teacher with questions to be used for a survey. The teacher will email a summary of the results from the survey to Gift of Life. This data is vital to the Life Savers program. Teachers are encouraged to offer an assignment or extra credit for completing the survey. The data is used for office purposes only to measure the outcomes of the Life Savers program.
Virtual Presentation
When a Life Savers Educator presents virtually, Gift of Life provides the teacher with questions to be used for a survey. The teacher will email a summary of the results from the survey to Gift of Life. This data is vital to the Life Savers program as we continually evaluate our outcomes.
Recorded Presentation
The Life Savers recorded presentation is an educational overview of organ, eye & tissue donation. The video is about fifteen minutes in length and the presenter is Kim Harbur, Director of Education for Gift of Life. Kim’s son Luke received a life-saving liver transplant at eleven months old. She shares her inspiring story of how organ donation saved her son’s life. For the recorded presentation please scroll down.
