SUCCESS STORIES
Victoria’s Story
Victoria has been a participant in Gateway’s PROS (Personalized Recovery Oriented Services)program since 2022, where she continues to thrive as both a writer and a mental health advocate. She continues to write with the goal of inspiring others. We look forward to hearing her work through upcoming readings here at PROS, as well as future readings at Barnes & Noble in Kingston.
Nora’s Story
Nora first came to Gateway Hudson Valley for support in 2006, and in 2014, she began to participate in the Personalized Recovery Oriented Services (PROS) program. Through PROS, she was referred to the Transitional Business Model (TBM) employment program, which gave Nora the tools to secure a job where she is respected, supported, and valued by her colleagues. Nora credits the PROS and TBM programs with helping her reach this milestone.
David’s Story
David Traver is one of the hardest working, motivated and determined individuals you will ever have the pleasure to meet. When David sets a goal for himself, he will put all his effort into making it reality.
Thanks to the wages he earns through Preferred Source employment, he has reached his ultimate goal to be self-sufficient.
Charles’ Story
My name is Charles Hertica and I am a father, a son, a friend, and a lifelong member of the Hudson Valley community. As someone who struggled with addiction, I’ve seen how difficult it can be for your friends, family, and community.
I left a halfway house in June of 2022 and was given an opportunity by Gateway to receive supportive housing. I would like to be an example for people that recovery is possible and there are wonderful organizations that are willing to help.
Chris’ Story
My name is Chris. I am 51 years old and a student here at Gateway PROS. I came from an extremely dysfunctional, chaotic, rage-aholic family upbringing. As a result, I developed severe anxiety and PTSD at a relatively early age, but wasn’t officially diagnosed until I was in my early thirties. Furthermore, I suffer from chronic recurrent depression and psychosis. I’ve also been hospitalized three times due to my disorders and panic attacks on the job and have experienced bouts of extremely horrible insomnia that caused intense paranoia, amongst other symptoms.
Jimmy’s Story
When I started PROS over three years ago I was in a much different place than I am now. I was in and out of the hospital on three different occasions and was suffering from pseudo-seizures from all the stress that my mind was under due to my illness. I came out of the hospital homeless and penniless. I ended up in a shelter with around twenty other men, which wasn’t the ideal situation because of the nature of my symptoms but I didn’t have any other options.
Melissa’s Story
Melissa has been part of the Gateway family since enrolling in our Work Center nearly 20 years ago. Over the years, we’ve had the pleasure of working with her through many of our programs and services and witnessing her build confidence and independence as she became more involved in the local community. As a participant in Gateway’s Internship Program, Melissa was able to gain work experience in several different fields.
