GEMS – Beam Foundation Analysis, developed by Geotechnical Engineering Modelling Software (GEMS) LLP, is a specialized tool for analyzing beams and continuous footings interacting with soil. It is designed for geotechnical and structural engineers who need reliable beam-on-elastic-foundation evaluations for elements such as strip footings, combined footings, grade beams, and mat strips.
The software models soil–structure interaction using classical beam-on-foundation formulations with finite-element discretization. Users can define segmented beam properties, multiple spans, overhangs, and internal releases, as well as assign uniform, trapezoidal, point, and moment loads. Subgrade stiffness (k) can be specified as constant or varying along the length to reflect layered or nonuniform ground conditions. The program supports imposed support settlements and spring nonlinearity where appropriate, enabling more realistic simulation of service behavior.
Results include deflections, rotations, shear forces, bending moments, soil reactions/contact pressures, and differential settlement estimates. Clear plots and tabulated outputs help users review performance at service levels and identify critical sections. Load cases and combinations are easy to manage, and results can be exported for documentation or further calculation. Both SI and U.S. customary units are supported. more
