About

Games From The Black Hole is…

A blog about old games! That’s it. Don’t read too much into the title. I just think it sounds cool. If you’d like to get in touch you can follow Games From The Black Hole on Twitter & Instagram, or catch my personal Twitter here.

A few notes on the editorial…

  • Frequency. I’m aiming to post one article per week, about an old game I’ve been playing. But I also have a real life. Please forgive me if the frequency is a bit up and down.
  • Boxouts. As well as a long, rambling article, each post will also include a short list feature of little things I liked about each game as well as some music from the soundtrack you might want to listen to while reading. Until I find a better way to display these, you can scroll to the bottom to find them.
  • Subject matter. There’s no set policy for the kinds of games I’ll be covering but they’ll generally be retro/classic and something I’m personally very interested in. In most cases they’ll lean more towards the obscure because that’s what I’m into and it seems kinda pointless to write about games that are well covered elsewhere.
  • Positivity. By its nature, this blog is always going to cover games that I enjoy. These aren’t reviews, they’re personal accounts, and as such there may be times when I get carried away and over-enthuse. I make no apologies for that. If you want a balanced review, a purchase recommendation or sheer negativity then there are plenty of other places for that.
  • Assets. I generally try to take my own screenshots, but I also prefer to play on real hardware. So in a lot of posts you’re going to see photographs of TV screens. I’ll try to make them look as good as possible but this might be tricky, especially if I’m playing during the day.
  • Spoiler warning! While I’ll try to avoid unnecessary spoilers where possible, in order to talk about any game in the detail I’d like to, it may sometimes be necessary to include spoilers, particularly around a game’s ending. I’ll try to give adequate warning whenever I do this but if you consider yourself spoiler-sensitive you may want to play a game to completion before reading.
  • Feedback. I’m almost always going to cover whatever game I feel like playing at the time, but if you have a request for a certain game, I’d love to hear from you. Comments are welcome and encouraged!

A few cool people and sites that have inspired me…

  • Kimimi: The Game-Eating She-Monster
A blogger after my own heart and a huge inspiration. Kimimi covers a wide range of fascinating games and if I’m ever half the writer she is I’ll be very proud!
  • Seb Patrick
A great internet friend who I somehow crossed paths with across three different fandoms. His passion for all kinds of passions inspired me to start writing again after several dormant years. The title of this blog is a little reference I know he would have loved. If you love comic books and/or movies, then try out his podcast, Cinematic Universe, just one of many great projects he published in his life.
    Rest in peace, Seb.
  • Hardcore Gaming 101
The secret best resource for anyone researching the weird and wonderful world of old games. The site has been running so long it’s practically an institution, and has certainly informed my tastes over the years. Make sure to check out their excellent podcast, The Top 47,858 Games Of All Time.
