Wind Farm Impact Assessment

At Future Intelligence in collaboration with Future Intelligence Aviation, we provide specialized services for the assessment of wind farm impacts on Air Navigation Equipment. Recognizing the inherent complexity of aeronautical systems and services, our seasoned experts offer comprehensive impact studies and consultancy to ensure the safe and rational development of wind energy projects, particularly in Greece, where we are currently the sole provider of such specialized studies.

We provide comprehensive, independent, and scientifically rigorous assessments that evaluate the potential impact of wind turbines on critical air navigation systems such as communications, navigation, and surveillance (CNS) equipment. Our approach is recognized and endorsed by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) and aligns with the strict criteria set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and EUROCONTROL.

Why Choose Future Intelligence for Wind Farm Impact Assessment?

Wind Farm Impact Assessment

Our unique position and extensive experience make us the ideal partner for your wind farm projects:

  • Unrivaled Expertise in Greece: Future Intelligence is currently the only company operating in Greece with the expertise to conduct such studies, a methodology officially recognized by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA).
  • Deep Aeronautical and Aviation Communication Knowledge: Our specialized personnel possess extensive experience in Aviation and Communications, enabling us to provide comprehensive impact studies and advice. We understand the intricacies and difficulties associated with wind farm development.
  • Neutral and Independent Assessment: We act as a neutral and independent evaluator of the impacts of wind turbines on aviation facilities and air navigation. This ensures unbiased assessments and scientifically sound proposals.
  • Comprehensive Regulatory Alignment: Our studies are in full compliance with ICAO and EUROCONTROL guidelines, ensuring that each case is examined and evaluated individually. We ensure full harmonization with the Government Gazette B/6625/31-12-2021.
  • Facilitating Licensing Process: We streamline the licensing process by preparing and submitting documentation to the HCAA and/or the Hellenic Air Force (HAF). We guide our partners through all stages and intermediate requirements that may arise during the licensing procedure.
  • Proven Track Record of Success: We have a history of successfully resolving complex issues, converting initial negative opinions into positive approvals for significant wind farm projects across Greece. Our successful track record includes projects across various regions of Greece, demonstrating our ability to achieve positive outcomes even for challenging sites.

Our Approach to Wind Farm Impact Assessment

Our methodology is tailored to address all stages of the licensing process, ensuring safe and rational wind farm development:

  1. Collaborative Pre-study and Design: We conduct preliminary studies on the potential impacts of the proposed wind farm on air traffic and HCAA’s Communication, Navigation & Surveillance (CNS) systems. This allows for the joint selection of optimal wind turbine installation locations.
  2. Detailed Impact Assessment: In cases where HCAA, ICAO, and EUROCONTROL criteria are violated, we undertake a detailed impact assessment of the wind farm against all criteria. This includes a specific evaluation of electromagnetic propagation phenomena relevant to Air Traffic procedures in the area of interest. Our specialized software platform simulates the impact of wind turbines on aeronautical equipment, estimating potential effects.
  3. Preparation and Submission of Licensing File: We prepare and submit the necessary documentation to the HCAA and/or HAF with supporting material to secure approval.
  4. Management of Negative Opinions: Should a negative opinion have pre-existed for part or all of the proposed wind farm development, we may evaluate the positions of the HCAA or HAF. If feasible and realistic, we support the subsequent steps.
  5. Support for Subsequent Steps: If alternative solutions are identified despite a negative opinion, we provide and submit additional data for resubmission of the request or propose new locations that satisfy the HCAA or HAF criteria.
  6. Comprehensive Case-by-Case Evaluation: Every case is examined and evaluated individually based on ICAO and EUROCONTROL guidelines. We analyze study findings and all feasible solutions, collaboratively deciding on the optimal realistic approach that satisfies the requirements of both HCAA and HAF.
