FtpDrive 3.5

FtpDrive is a Windows shell extension for managing FTP servers. It allows you to use a list of FTP servers as a virtual drive on your computer. For example, I used "ftp.microsoft.com" and loaded it into a list. I then assigned drive letter Z to my FTP servers. So, by simply going to My Computer and double-clicking on drive Z, I can get to all my FTP servers. They are listed with the name that you want to give them. Double-clicking on one of the folders will initiate the FTP connection procedures. Working with FTP servers using FtpDrive is like copying and pasting files on your own computer.

Although the operations you can carry out using FtpDrive are rather limited, simple operations like file downloading, uploading, or deleting are very easy to accomplish. You can treat any file on an FTP server like if it were a local file, so hotkeys, drag-and-drop and selection of multiple files are all allowed.

The application runs as a tray icon. There, you can access the settings and add new servers. There is a speed meter available for incoming and outgoing transfers, though it uses "bps" as a speed measurement, which is hardly adequate.

Unlike other applications of this type, FtpDrive does warn you when errors occur and doesn't leave FTP operations to Windows' control. Thus, if an FTP becomes unresponsive, FtpDrive will probably crash, but not your whole operating system.
