Pyrus

In 2024, the FRUITDIV project conducted in situ sampling of Pyrus pyraster, the wild pear tree found across Europe and parts of Asia. These efforts took place in Romania, France, Italy, North Macedonia, and other regions, involving the collection of leaves, fruits, and seeds.

The goal? To better understand the genetic diversity of Pyrus pyraster through various tests, including germination experiments and DNA analysis of dried leaves. These pictures showcase the sampling campaigns and laboratory work that are vital for characterizing these wild trees.

Malus

In 2024, the FRUITDIV project carried out in situ sampling of Malus sylvestris, the wild apple native to Europe. Sampling took place across Italy, Spain, Romania, and North Macedonia, involving the collection of fruits and leaves from various wild populations.

These efforts aim to better understand the genetic diversity of Malus sylvestris. The collected samples will be characterized through fruit and leaf analysis to identify distinct traits and variations.

Prunus

In 2024, the FRUITDIV project carried out in situ sampling of various wild Prunus species across Romania, North Macedonia, and Greece. This included collection efforts focusing on Prunus amygdalus (wild almond), Prunus cerasifera (plum cherry), Prunus tenella, Prunus webbii, and Prunilla cocomilla.

These pictures showcase the sampling campaigns in the wild, as well as the core collections established in France and Greece. Our goal is to better understand the genetic diversity and traits of these wild Prunus species, which are vital resources for future breeding and conservation.

Cesarus

In 2024, the FRUITDIV project conducted in situ sampling of Cerasus avium (wild cherry) across Spain and North Macedonia. This included collecting fruits and leaves from various wild populations.

These pictures highlight the sampling efforts in the wild, helping us better understand the genetic diversity of Cerasus avium. This information is essential for identifying valuable traits for future breeding and for conserving this important genetic resource.
