WE ARE A GRASSROOTS, VOLUNTEER-DRIVEN NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO PRESERVING AND KEEPING A SPECIAL SECTION OF JUPITER BEACH ENVIRONMENTALLY CLEAN AND DOG-FRIENDLY.
Friends of Jupiter Beach (FJB) was founded in 1994 out of a shared commitment to protect one of Jupiter’s most cherished natural treasures. When concerns arose that one of the area’s last dog-friendly beaches could be closed to pets, a group of passionate local residents came together to advocate for responsible access. Led by community volunteer Anita Lankler, the group worked closely with the Town of Jupiter and made a simple but powerful promise: if the beach remained open to dogs, volunteers would help keep it clean and well-maintained for everyone to enjoy.
What began as a grassroots effort to preserve beach access quickly evolved into a lasting community organization dedicated to environmental stewardship, education, and public service. Over the years, Friends of Jupiter Beach has become a trusted partner in protecting the natural beauty of Jupiter Beach while promoting responsible pet ownership and respectful beach use.
Today, FJB is powered entirely by volunteers, donors, sponsors, and community supporters who share a passion for preserving the unique dog-friendly character of Jupiter Beach. The organization coordinates monthly beach cleanups that remove thousands of pounds of litter and debris each year, helping to protect local wildlife, marine ecosystems, and the overall health of the coastline. FJB also installs and maintains dog waste bag stations throughout the beach area, ensuring visitors have the resources needed to help keep the shoreline clean.
Beyond cleanup efforts, Friends of Jupiter Beach actively educates residents and visitors on responsible beach etiquette, environmental conservation, and the importance of protecting the delicate coastal habitats that make Jupiter Beach so special. Through partnerships with local governments, environmental organizations, schools, businesses, and community groups, FJB continues to strengthen its impact and inspire a culture of stewardship throughout the region.
More than three decades after its founding, Friends of Jupiter Beach remains dedicated to the vision that started it all: a clean, safe, and welcoming beach where people, dogs, and nature can coexist responsibly. By bringing the community together through volunteerism, education, and advocacy, FJB continues to ensure that future generations can enjoy the beauty and freedom of Jupiter Beach for years to come.
