Funding to support B.C. First Nations efforts to develop infrastructure projects that braid together arts, culture, heritage and language activities.
The Braided Infrastructure Program (BIP) is provided by the FPCC Heritage and Arts Programs. Up to $70,000 in funding is available for B.C. First Nations infrastructure projects that conserve, repair or develop B.C First Nations’ cultural heritage, arts and language infrastructure.
Note: The Heritage Infrastructure Program (HIP) is now integrated with the Braided Infrastructure Program (BIP). For more information contact the program staff member listed at the bottom of this page.
Projects could include:
- Historical and cultural places, archives and cultural heritage collections that are of collective value to B.C. First Nations
- Construction or renovation of a permanent designated space to connect cultural activities, such as weaving, drawing, painting, regalia making and other creative expressions
- Physical infrastructure such as buildings, trails and structures that support public and community access to the:
- Stories of historic places and the places themselves
- Knowledge transfer of histories and cultural practices, crafts or trades
- Cultural materials that support telling the stories of historic sites and the transmission of community memory and traditional practices, arts and trades
- Art, music and cultural materials and forms
Eligibility
FPCC’s Heritage Program supports projects by the 204 B.C. First Nations communities and B.C.-based First Nations-led organizations whose mandate or focus includes the revitalization of First Nations’ heritage and arts.
FPCC respects the rights of all First Nations to deliver services to their communities. FPCC requires at least 65% of an organization’s board members/directors to include individuals from B.C. First Nations as they are the rightful stewards of their cultural heritage and are best equipped to lead the important work of protecting, sharing and revitalizing B.C. First Nations Heritage on these lands.
The following are eligible to apply:
- B.C. First Nations bands or Tribal Councils
- Not-for-profit societies registered in B.C. in good standing and governed by B.C. First Nations individuals where at least 65% of directors are from recognized B.C. First Nations
- B.C. First Nations-led museums or cultural spaces where at least 65% of directors are from recognized B.C. First Nations
- Urban and off-reserve B.C. First Nations organizations where at least 65% of directors are from recognized B.C. First Nations
- B.C. First Nations schools or adult education centres operating in B.C. on First Nations lands* (Please note that applications from First Nations schools that serve one community must be submitted through their respective Nation/Band Office.)

Applications are completed on FPCC’s Grant Portal which functions best when used on a laptop or desktop computer. For applicants that require assistance with technology, we recommend having a friend, family member or someone they trust to assist them with completing and submitting the application.

Lucas Roque
Lucas joined FPCC’s Heritage team in July 2022 and is supporting the Heritage Infrastructure Program grants.
Lucas has worked with indigenous and non-indigenous communities from many countries as a UNESCO expert, helping them plan and implement Intangible Cultural Heritage safeguard plans.
