FoxLMS Notifications Guide: Instructor & Student Notifications

Notifications are an important part of every LMS platform. They keep instructors and students informed about important activities within the platform. By using notifications effectively, learning platforms can improve communication and ensure users stay engaged and aware of what’s happening in their courses. In this guide, we will take a look at all the notification options that are available in the FoxLMS plugin.

How to Activate Notifications #

To activate the dashboard notifications for both instructors and students, you will need to move to the General Settings submenu > Notifications > activate the Enable Notifications option.

Notifications to Instructor #

There are various notification options that will inform the instructors about the new activities for their courses. Below you can see the available options and their descriptions.

  • New Student Enrollment – This notification is sent to instructors whenever a student enrolls in their course. It helps instructors stay aware of new participants joining the learning process.
  • Course Completion – This notification informs the instructor when a student successfully completes a course, making it easier to track learner achievements.
  • New Question in Q&A – Instructors receive this notification when a student asks a new question in the course Q&A section, allowing them to provide guidance when needed.
  • New Review – This notification is triggered when a student submits a review for a course, helping instructors stay updated on learner feedback.
  • Scheduled Course Start – This notification reminds instructors when a scheduled course start date is approaching or has been reached.
  • Q&A Reply – Sent when a new reply appears in a Q&A discussion related to the instructor’s course.
  • Student Payment Failed – This notification alerts instructors when a student’s payment attempt for a course does not go through.
  • Quiz Submission – Instructors receive this notification when a student submits a quiz within their course.

To see the notifications, the instructor must go to his/her dashboard and click on the notification icon.

The following box will be opened as soon as the instructor clicks on the notifications icon. All the notifications will be listed there.

The instructor will have the opportunity to mark all notifications as read or see unread notifications.

Notifications to Students #

The Students as well can also receive important notifications. There are several options that will help the students keep up with the course they have enrolled in and make sure they don’t miss anything.

Here are all the available options:

  • Enrollment Confirmation – This notification is sent to students after they successfully enroll in a course, confirming that their registration has been completed.
  • New Announcement from Instructor – Students receive this notification when the instructor posts a new announcement related to the course.
  • Certificate Issued – This notification informs the student that their course certificate has been generated and is available.
  • New Question in Q&A – Sent when a new question is posted in the course Q&A section, helping students stay aware of ongoing discussions.
  • Reply to a Question from Q&A – This notification is triggered when someone replies to a question in the Q&A section that the student is involved in or following.

To see the notifications, students as well need to click on the notification icon on their dashboard. This is how they will see the notifications.

Here as well, the students have the ability to mark all as read and see the unread notifications.
