Part of hospice is ensuring patients and families have access to emotional and grief support throughout and after their hospice journey. We understand you and your loved ones will experience a wide range of feelings, and each person will have his or her own way and timeline for grieving. VNA Hospice offers patients and families grief support through bereavement counselors, non-denominational chaplains and bereavement support groups. The VNA’s bereavement team provides individual counseling, heads support groups and hosts public bereavement events including a Ceremony of Remembrance to help anyone in need of support. These important services that help people through an emotional and difficult journey are fully funded through charitable donations.
For family members of patients who have passed while receiving hospice care, counseling is available for up to 13 months after the death of a loved one. Virtual support groups are currently available for all Indian River County residents who have experienced a loss.
For Indian River County children ages 5-13 VNA’s Camp Chrysalis is offered at different times throughout the year. Camp Chrysalis is a bereavement-focused camp that provides a way for children who have experienced a death understand the feelings and emotions that may come with that. Camp Chrysalis is a combination of fun activities, music and therapeutic sessions that help children work through the emotions that are a normal part of the grieving process.
At VNA Hospice, we are committed to compassionate care at the highest level, with a focus on quality of life; for us, hospice is about living fully.
