Oh hey, I haven't checked here in a while!
Yes, that's my new toy. My sister calls it my "mid-life crisis car"!
Fortunately my wife likes it. What does my sister know...

The advantage to a bow, apart from being able to hold back from melee (!) is that it gets two attacks per round. Also, dexterity adds “to hit” bonuses; so if a character has a better dexterity than strength they may do better with a bow. Obviously with unlimited point shifting you can build your character however you want,…

@ErykEryk no I think you completely misunderstand the point. Just in the last week my wife was laughing with a friend over a ridiculous story and she used an AI to do a quick render of a superhero battling an evil garbage can, and plumbers being chased by exploding toilets. Because it’s all in FUN! She was goofing around…

Aerie is awesome useful in a six-party. Basically she can back up both mage and cleric. Even when either of those types are disabled or overwhelmed, Aerie can fill the gap. I consider her near essential. And when she gets the Robe of Veccna, she becomes the fastest cleric ever. Just a very useful character. Of course the…

And I’ll be fine with the Override folder just copied over from BG1?
-
For a lot of us the actual power of the character is completely beside the point. It’s about the *character*. The personality matters way more than stats and numbers. And Aerie is a sweety, possibly the nicest character in the game. Anomen is a jerk. It’s not even a hard choice for me. I took Anomen once, I’ll never do it…

Thank you Julius, but that isn’t quite it. My document files are all gone, there is nothing to find. I had just run updates the day before, my wife suggested sometimes things get moved during updates. But I’ve had no luck finding them. I’m willing to write-off the saves. I’m just hoping to avoid a repeat (or any problems…

I always consider them both the same thing really. I’ve never started BG1 without intending to finish through ToB. I don’t always get there! I’ve definitely had characters/team/build/runs that I lost interest in, but not often. I probably have 50 or more total game completions at this point. That said, they obviously have…

@garyknowz1 yeah like the Robin Hood model! That particularly makes sense for a Ranger-Archer. But I think the real prototype is Aragorn. He can be an archer, or a sneaky fighter. Or he can tank up and go toe-to-toe with anyone! The way it’s presented in the 2E Players Handbook is a little odd. Keeping in mind everything…

I don’t know right off what you might have done wrong with EEKeeper, but I would mention you *might* have done nothing wrong with the style proficiency. A Ranger should always have two pips in two weapon style (dual wielding). It’s a class benefit, a freebie. Now that said, usually for Minsc I’ll want two pips in…

Those are really gorgeous. I encourage you to continue, and post more! The only downside is, it’s become accessible for many of us to create to our own preferences. Years ago it could be really tough to find such good work, now it really isn’t. But by all means continue! It is always a blast to see well done renders.

Several good points here, I would add on the melee/missile thing, I agree with always having one tank who does melee. Right out of Candlekeep a warrior with dex and const bonuses and scale mail armor is an excellent 1st level tank. Oh and use a shield even if you mean for them to dual wield eventually. Their ac is good,…

Ultimately the thing that matters most is choosing a character that appeals to YOU! The game can be won with any character, and I mean that literally. Any race, any class, strong, weak, average…. It doesn’t matter. Any character can win. A few general notes. The foundational idea is it is a whole team event. It is expected…

I think SCS is an excellent mod for adding a little difficulty to the game without cheating. Like you, I was frustrated with another mod that to me, was cheating. It gave opponents a range of *new* powers and abilities. That to me, weren't even AD&D anymore (to some of us, that matters!). And it spammed all pre-buffs. It…

Ultimately that fact you gain very little power above a certain experience point is why I see little point in the smaller party. (Varies by character class or multi-class, but generally once you have a couple HLAs, you just don’t get much more powerful with additional gains). It does change the rhythm a little, I think…

I think that’s really harsh. The original art is still available, for free. So what if a few gamers choose to modify it to match their own needs or interests? And distribute that for free too (by law AI art cannot be copywrited). There is some serious thought and creativity, and I do mean *human* thought and creativity,…

I’d also never go without Imoen. I did BG1 once with a Cav, a single-class mage and a fighter/cleric… Plus Imoen. So not actually three. And that was a long time ago, my last 20 or so runs I always do six. I like the NPCs.
-
Yeah that usually comes from botched mod install. I’m not sure what else might cause it. But I did just have ALL my BG2 Document files (Saves, Portraits, settings) disappear after doing some system updates. Weird things happen.
-
Yes @garyknowz1 , the only character that carries through BG1 and BG2 is Gorion’s Ward. Actually not quite true, if you create more characters in the party (I pretty much always create two characters, see my latest run Gabby and Bull) then all of *your* characters can be transferred. But this does have some game-play…

Safana will be available at a usable level whether you've given her any experience or not, you don't need to worrry about it. Unforrtunately, or maybe its a mixed blessing (?), but what you do with Imoen won't actually affect the version of her you meet in BG2. Remember this game has almost a 30 year old basic…
-
That’s a choice. I always rescue her fast and she’s with me most of the game.
-
I’d also add BG2 Imoen is completely adequate as a trap finder/remover and lock picker. She can fulfill all the minimum thief functions you need. Plus use the bow. And it’s never bad to have two mages in BG2!
-
@Sloty1984 That is a strong party, one caster is fine. I would still strongly recommend a mage over a sorcerer, but that will work.
-
Like I said, I’ve never used it. It is not *needed*.
-
Sparing? Seriously, apart from the forced change in the Assylum I have *never* used it. It shouldn't be that hard to do without!
-
Again, I have *never* had an issue with Keldorn turning on me. Whatever happened to tank your reputation is what caused the problem before. It is possible that comment came because you did still have a marginal rep, but he would not turn on you with a 17.
-
Gabby and Bull are done with BGII. As I mentioned elsewhere I finished with a frustrating loss of save files a week ago, so the end part of this became a faux BG2 run! The latest post is now up, or read the whole thing from the beginning here.

Update 18 and Epilogue News came while we were still celebrating with the elves that serious trouble was brewing to the south. Bhaalspawn led armies were ravaging the land, killing many innocents. We all knew at once that we had to investigate at once. This was a part of my curse, and I had to put an end to it or Bull,…

@Wisterias I actually love the 2E magic system, so I never found the original scope of the game limiting in any way. I love melee heavy parties, its how I prefer to play anyway. (I prefer heroes who wear plate armor!). But I do love the range of kits and reimagined game. Except Sorcerers. Eh, no interest in a shaman…
-
Yeah that is strange, I typically have Keldorn with me through ToB and have never seen such behavior. Although I do always run with a 20 Reputation as soon as I can.
-
Oh I played plenty of original IWD back in the day. I prefer EE now for many reasons (speed, stability, mods I want, etc). And I *like* having more classes/kits to choose from. Just because I have opinions about what works best doesn’t mean I reject the whole thing! (Something about babies and bath water…)
