The Ann Arbor Public Schools Board of Education picked Steve Norton to fill the vacancy on the board at the June 3rd meeting. Norton is the parent of two AAPS grads and has been involved in school finance and policy matters professionally and as a volunteer for many years.

More students are coming to school with complex medical needs, which require support to keep them safe and thriving while at school. Additionally, the need for mental health support has increased over the years. As student advocates, there is also a need to support the families of students with complex needs, and the school nurse can often be a resource to help navigate the health care system and school.

They come from different high schools and pursue different passions, but Emily Hu and Daniel Zhou share a distinction that places them among the most distinguished students in the country. The two AAPS seniors have been named semifinalists in the 2026 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, joining a select group of 627 students chosen from more than 6,500 candidates expected to graduate from U.S. high schools this year.
