On a recent trip to Kerala, I came across this place, where the mahouts conduct elephant rides for the tourists. Sounds fun right?
No. It’s not.
I stood there looking at this beautiful giant and was sad to see it tamed and maybe scared. This one was being careful and backed out when the mahout approached him.
I’m sure elephant rides are fun for some, but it isn’t worth the pain to the animal.
I’m sure all mahouts are not bad, but there are those who use more than words to train elephants.
I’m sure this is the only livelihood for some, but I feel wrong contributing to it.
We can do so much better.

yes they are. For an animal to be as compassionate as they are, it’s amazing. We could learn a thing or two from them. Thanks for reading.
