US embassy cables: Why Holland is so important to US

This cable exposes the interests the US has in the Caribbean in controlling Venezuela (and its rich oil reserves) by proxy –

…. Dutch strategic interests in the Caribbean make them logical partners to counter Venezuelan meddling in the region….

The cable describes the Dutch as water carriers for the US (corporate) interests.

The “meddling” seems to refer to Chavez’s nationalization of resources to the dismay of Exon-Mobil-Shell.
