2 MORE FIRES at Los Alamos Nuke Dump/Lab

9 07 2011

Caused by lightning –

[snip] . . . .   Wildland firefighters battled more than just the usual Nevada brush blaze this week. They had to contend with the possibility of radiation.

Lightning sparked two fires Tuesday within the Nevada National Security Site, the former nuclear test site 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas. By Friday, the fires had consumed more than 6,000 acres, with the smaller blaze fully contained and the larger only 25 percent contained. . . .

July 4 Los Alamos nuke waste dump fire threat update

4 07 2011

Las Conchas continues to burn

. . . . As the fire spreads across the region and continues to grow mainly toward the east which is on the northwest side of town, new numbers show it has swallowed more than 123,000 acres. The good news it is now 19 percent contained. Investigators believe the fire was started after a tree fell on some power lines near the Las Conchas camping area. . . . . . . . The fire chief said this was an immense threat to the Los Alamos National Lab and that the danger is not quite over yet as monsoons approach. . . .  (story & VIDEO)

Post-fire landscape has nothing on the slopes to stop mudslides and flooding. Debris-dams make more problems and rainy season looms. And the Los Alamos nuke lab has all of that nuke waste dumped willy-nilly nearby for decades!

And think of those (decades old) radioactive waste barrels full of who-knows-what getting rolled into places like THIS

then getting scorched and burned etc. etc.

. . .  well, wouldn’t that make it OUT OF CONTROL????

What nuke watse is scattered all around the site?   See the video at prior post

Radioactive Waste Dumped in Open Pits Outside Los Alamos National Lab

More on this blog’s earlier posts too.

A lot of nuke waste near Los Alamos just dumped off the back of a truck

1 07 2011

“Approximately 18 million cubic feet of radioactive and chemical solid wastes onsite were disposed of since 1943. “All of the radioactive waste and most of the chemical waste have been buried on the mesas of Pajarito Plateau where LANL is located. Radioactive liquid wastes were discharged to the canyons, initially with little treatment.”

For many years, one method of disposal was “kick-and-roll”. The back of a truck was brought to the edge of a hole and barrels of waste were kicked. Wherever the barrels rolled tow as their final resting place.

No protection was put in place to ensure contaminants did not spread from the barrel. It is not clear that today’s practices are more protective.”

Is The Mainstream Media Covering Up The Truth At Los Alamos, Ft. Calhoun And Fukushima?

1 07 2011

Japan, (Pal Telegraph) – What in the world is really going on at Los Alamos, Ft. Calhoun and Fukushima? There are millions of Americans that would like the truth about what is happening at these nuclear facilities, but the mainstream media has been strangely quiet. Instead, the mainstream media is running headlines such as “10 Dirtiest U.S. Beaches Named” and “Pole Dance Stops Times Square Cold”. Yes, those are actually headlines that appeared on the front pages of major mainstream news websites in the United States today. Sadly, you really have to dig to find anything about the problems that are currently happening at nuclear facilities in the United States, and the mainstream media seems to have gotten really tired of talking about Fukushima. It is almost as if the mainstream media actually prefers to talk about mindless things rather than focus on the truly important events that are happening all around us.

Look, most of us are not nuclear experts, but when one of our nuclear plants is completely surrounded by flood waters and another one is being seriously threatened by a raging wildfire we have a right to be concerned.

Sadly, the coverage by the mainstream media has been so sparse that the majority of Americans don’t even know that there are problems at Los Alamos and Ft. Calhoun. Most Americans also don’t understand how serious the Fukushima disaster really is. . .  (more)

Lies, Damn Lies, and Safe Nuclear Power

by Stephen Lendman

In any form, nuclear power is inherently unsafe. For decades, nuclear expert Helen Caldicott warned it must be abandoned, saying:
“As a physician, I contend that nuclear technology threatens life on our planet with extinction. If present trends continue, the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink will soon be contaminated with enough radioactive pollutants to pose a potential health hazard far greater than any plague humanity has ever experienced.” . . .  (more)
