Illinois Facebook users: Your $397 privacy settlement check should be in the mail beginning May 9

“The settlement class included about 7 million Facebook users in Illinois for whom the social network created and stored a face template after June 7, 2011. To qualify, Facebook users had to live in the state for at least six months over the previous nine years. More than one in five eligible Illinois Facebook users filed a claim by the November 2020 deadline.”

Facebook facing wrath of renewed Gunpowder Plot

Lambasted for its dodgy privacy policies, the annoying introduction of opt-out features, making profit from user information, and, most recently, its possible part in helping fuel antisocial behaviour in the UK, social networking giant Facebook will be no more come November 5. 

That’s according to shadowy hacking group Anonymous, which has pledged to bring Mark Zuckerberg’s glorious domain to its virtual knees via ‘Operation Facebook’ on the same day Guy Fawkes promised to burn down the Houses of Parliament during the Gunpowder Plot of 1605. . .   (more)

Facebook facial recognition prompts EU privacy probe

Bloomberg reports that European Union data-protection regulators say they will investigate the photo-tagging feature. The Article 29 Data Protection Working Party, which advises national data protection agencies that could then potentially establish punishments, will evaluate whether the feature breaks privacy rules, according to member Gerard Lommel’s comments to Bloomberg.

Facebook, which calls the feature “Tag Suggestions,” admitted it messed up at least a little bit, telling various news outlets “we should have been more clear with people during the roll-out process when this became available to them.” . . .  (more)

They secretly capture your browsing history, what links you visit and apps you use and every keystroke you make.
The info is sold to Madison Ave.  You renounce the privacy of you your session on facebook when you agree to their (illegal) terms of service.
