Irate North Korea Suggests New Nuke Test Is Coming
And there’s no possibility of denuclearization talks

(Newser) – The UN Security Council unanimously passed a resolution yesterday expanding sanctions against North Korea as punishment for its December rocket launch, and Pyongyang did not take the news lying down. It responded angrily today by promising to strengthen its nuclear weapons program and suggesting it would carry out a third nuclear test: “There can be talks for peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula and the region in the future, but no talks for the denuclearization of the peninsula,” it said in a statement, adding that it will take “physical counteraction.” Analysts say that most likely means another test, the New York Times reports. South Korea has increased monitoring of the North Korean test site since the declaration, Yonhap News reports. . . . (more)

“Today, however, North Korea’s tune seemed to change. “We are not disguising the fact that the various satellites and long-range rockets that we will fire and the high-level nuclear test we will carry out are targeted at the United States,” North Korea’s National Defense Commission said, Reuters reports, citing the state news agency KCNA.”

North Korea threatens war with South over U.N. sanctions
In a third straight day of fiery rhetoric, the North directed its verbal onslaught at its neighbor on Friday, saying: “‘Sanctions’ mean a war and a declaration of war against us.”
The reclusive North this week declared a boycott of all dialogue aimed at ending its nuclear program and vowed to conduct more rocket and nuclear tests after the U.N. Security Council censured it for a December long-range missile launch. . . .
