On the plot

I’m pleased to see that all the dwarf French beans Tendergreen I sowed the week before last have appeared (as shown), but so far only a couple of the runner beans are showing which I seem to recollect do take a few days longer.

I looked at the first short double row of carrot Royal Chantenay seedlings during last week but when I looked again the next day they had all disappeared, which I guess  was due to slugs eating them.  Thankfully I still have plenty of seeds so I’ll be able to sow some more.

I’m picking a few strawberries each time I’m on the plot but so far there hasn’t been enough to bring home so I eat them whilst I’m having a look round.

The white flowering dog rose is doing really well this year with lots of flowers.  It’s just a shame that they only last a few days.

Have a good week, and take care!

  1. The runner bean seeds you sent me have sprung up Mike. I too am eating the strawberries on the plot as they are not enough to pick for home as yet. Dog Rose flowers are beautiful. There’s one just behind my allotment, which I have to walk by to fill my watering cans. Happy plotting xx

  2. Do you have a big problem with slugs? Is beer still used as a deterrent? Those strawberries look yummy and I can see why you are anxious to have more to bring home from the plot.

    1. Liz not generally thankfully. It’s often quoted as such but I’ve never known anyone use it for that purpose. They taste as good as they look. xx

  3. You win some you lose some! Luckily you seem to be on the winning side.Yummy looking strawberries.. I remember dog roses in abundance as a child, so pretty. Have a good plotting week. Weather looks good here, but not too hot.

    1. Andy we do indeed. I generally don’t lose many. They taste as good as they look. I do too as mum had a couple in her garden. It’s the same here. xx

        1. Yeah, I think I need to dig them up, give them a trim, and replant in more fertile soil. In our area, we’re supposed to fertilize in early spring and in mid summer. We’ll see.

    1. Nikki there are a few good ones, such as the leopard slug, but generally they’re always near the top of most gardeners list od baddies. xx

  4. well done. None of my first sowing of runner beans came up – old seed I think – but a second direct sowing in the soil is beginning to appear. Hoping they survive the slugs and snails.

  5. Oh, isn’t that dog rose pretty, such understated flowers, I love them. Mick’s sown two lots of climbing beans and only odd ones have germinated, I think we’re going to have to buy a new packet and try again.
