I looked round the plot last Saturday morning and wasn ‘t surprised to see how soggy it was. I did the same on Tuesday when it was as bad and there was also some standing water around the stone feature as well as alongside the crocosmia. Thankfully the weather forecast through into next week is for mostly sunny and warmer weather so hopefully the ground will start to dry out and I can get plotting again rather than just marking time.
I was intending to give both roses a major prune over the winter but will leave that for another year as I’ve got plenty of other things to do in the next few weeks, such as finishing digging out the compost heap. The archive picture shows the rose Pretty Lady in full bloom in June 2021.

The only thing I noticed when I did look round is that the new rhubarb is starting to appear.
Have a good weekend, and take care!
Beautiful pic of your roses from 2021 Mike. Enjoy the rhubarb appearing more and more over the coming weeks and indeed harvest time too xx

Sorry to hear about the miserable weather. It has been much the same here in the US, with extremes of highs and lows and precipitation in various forms. Still, your rhubarb is persevering and looks good. And, Pretty Lady, in full bloom in midsummer is something to daydream about. Fingers crossed for better weather ahead.

Ok, enough rain and soggy ground, it’s time for some full on sunshine now! I’m sure we are all really looking forward to getting on outside now. Rhubarb, yum. Snow drops and crocuses appearing in the garden which is always a welcome sight at this time of the year for us all.

What counts as a major prune for your climate? Is that about 1/2 the height of the shrub? She’s a beauty and hope she’ll do as well this season.

Nikki yes that sounds about right, but I rarely ever give mine a major prune. She sure is, and hopefully will as usual. xx

It can be frustrating at this time of year when you want to start getting on with some jobs but the weather just won’t cooperate. Fingers crossed that everything dries out this coming week, it looks like some better weather is on the way. Pretty Lady is aptly named, she’s a beauty.
