I’ve not even been to the plot very often the past few weeks let alone done much when I’m there! Times when I’ve been able to go it’s been raining, and of course when I haven’t it’s been okay.
I was there this morning picking the last of the sweet peas, lots more runner beans
, a courgette
and just a few blackberries and raspberries.
It generally looks a bit bedraggled now. I shall start to tidy up, weed and dig over the vegetable areas once, or rather hopefully, when it dries out a bit.
Other areas I shall leave as is through to late winter, which may look untidy but will be beneficial for wildlife.
Several plot neighbours, all long-time allotmenteers, have said what a dreadful year it’s been so I’m happy with what I’ve achieved. The few vegetables that I did grow, and eat, were potatoes, onions, broad and runner beans, beetroot and courgettes.
I’ve started pondering on what vegetables I’m going to grow next year and will certainly make a bit more effort to improve on this years somewhat modest results. They will include all the above, plus carrots and a few other things.
I’m not planning on making any major changes on the plot but I do have one or two ideas that I might put into practice. Mind you if it keeps raining then I’ll be digging out my plan to turn the plot into a rice paddy!
My next plot entry will probably look at the flowers I grew and what I’m thinking about for those areas next year.
I can’t believe you’ve still got sweetpeas! I’m getting ready to plant some for next spring (though with our warm weather, they will probably sprout in a month or so). I laughed at your “alternative” plot ideas (over at Daffy’s). And if you blink once or twice, I’m sure Glo will do up one of your plot images to look like a rice paddy 🙂

Nikki only a handful which are way past their best sadly. I shall be collecting the seeds from them next.
Don’t laugh, with the price of rice being what it is I might give it some serious thought!
I sure she will! xx

Oh Flighty, that bit about the rice paddy was so funny. It sounds as if you have done very well for yourself with the harvest of vegetables. All foods I like to eat too. September is a hot, dry month for us, rather like August. We are hoping for rain. Too bad we can’t share weather.

Never mind…we have to make do with the weather we get.
Bedraggled. I like that word

Nice photos of the runner beans and courgette 🙂 Considering the weather you have had, I think your harvest has been surprising…especially in the sweet pea department. It’s also nice to see that you have taken a liking for growing veggies, because they taste so much more delicious fresh out of the garden. Now you’ll have a balance of flowers and veggies…unless of course you choose the rice paddy option 😉

Beginninghere thanks! I didn’t grow much but I’ve been pleased with it all. Lucky you, and as you say sharing would be nice! xx

Daffy we do indeed, besides which I’m sure we’d get fed up if it was nice all the time!
It’s a good word isn’t it! xx

Glo they were actually taken a couple weeks back. Yes despite the weather some things, such as the sweet peas, have done well.
I’m looking forward to seeing how I do next year with both flowers and vegetables. xx

I think you’ve probably done better than some of the ‘old hands’ up at our site Flighty. It’s been a tough year up at t’plot!
Either you or someone from here has just been my 20,000th visitor 🙂

VP if that’s so then I think that it was beginner’s luck! It’s been the same everywhere by the look of it.
Well done on passing that milestone! xx

I’m impressed by how much you managed to grow despite the dismal summer, Flighty. Let’s hope next summer will be better!
