I read in yesterday’s newspaper that this month has been the most dismally overcast and the least sunny since sun records began in 1912!
Not only that but today there’s thunder, lightning and heavy rain which will make it the wettest August for four years. I’m not surprised that the forecast for the coming week isn’t much better either!
I’ve got to go to the Horticultural Society’s hut later on then I’m going to have a lazy day. I’m going to spend it mooching, reading and watching TV. No doubt I’ll drink too many cups of tea and eat far too many biscuits.
As for all the the things that I could, indeed should, be doing they can all wait for another day.
Some of you will have noticed that I’ve changed the header picture again. These vivid blue Cornflowers have been in flower for three months, as have the California poppies. I took this picture last Tuesday and as you can see I wasn’t the only one appreciating this bright beauty.
Have a good Sunday!

I’ve got a six foot window box I’m gonna plant up next year, those blue cornflowers look to be the ideal thing… I’ve also got a packet of catmint seeds, now I wonder where I can put them?
LOL
P.S. Daffy has a hits counter on her home page, any idea where I can get one Mike?

Chippy these Cornflowers are well over three foot tall!
You can buy packets of seeds for containers which contain a mix of dwarf annuals. Look for Window Box Mixture, or similar, on the packet.
I’ve emailed you about showing stats on your blog.
Cheers!

What a thunderstorm we had, and what a photo! Do you know I scattered seeds of California Poppy a few years back and two germinated, and would you believe one was hidden behind a shrub where I couldn’t see it! I have also had the same experience with Cornflowers, scattered the seeds and not seen one! I love them and your header is fabulous, my favourite blue. Any of those dark chocolate digestives left!

Louise mostly rain here, especially early and late. Thanks.
I’m hoping that both will self-seed so that there’ll be more next year. I’ll probably sow a few packets as well!
Just a couple, and the kettle’s on! xx

Those blue cornflowers are beautiful! The weather has been abyssmal this summer but at least everything on your allotment seems to be thriving.
I hope we will have an Indian summer this year – we all deserve some nice weather for a change.

Maureen they certainly are! It has indeed, and in view of that I feel that I’ve done well although there have been a few failures.
You and me both, yes we do! xx

Flighty, I LOVE that photo of the poppy and the bee (is that a bee?). What a gorgeous and perfect photo! It’s been nothing but hot here. Well, I take that back. It’s been hot and sometimes humid, which is a little unusual for us. Can’t wait for fall weather!

When I saw this eye-popping photo this morning, I said “WOW, that is magnificent!” Picture perfect, Flighty! I tried to leave comments a couple of times this morning, and somehow they disappeared, so I gave up until tonight. I keep looking at the photo ~ I think it is your very very best one ~ and is a prize-winner 🙂 It just about seems that the abdomen is transparent and the deep colour of the flower shows through! ~ a perfect match… that’s two perfects in one comment 😉

Nikki thanks! I think that it’s a bee.
I’m hoping that our fall will be a good one as well! xx

Glo I’d taken one of the poppy then as I turned away the insect landed so I took another one. I’m surprised at the clarity as ones I take like this are often blurred. So it’s very much a lucky, and perfect, eye-catching photo!
Thanks! xx

It’s a magnificent photograph! I think you are getting the hang of that camera! ;o)
The weather is funny, warm, muggy, clammy and yet very flippin’ wet!
I’ve got a lovely lily (i think) and a lovely iris (I think) that I will try and get a pic of. Due to the rabbits destroying my plants instead of having rows of stuff I get one or two survivors!!

Always love your photos; when I’m off on my canal (I know it’s not really mine) I often see bees flying in and out of flowers – but rarely have time to get my camera, point, click and capture before they’ve flown (but as hard as they are, the dragonflies are/were impossible to capture!)
August was a bit disappointing weather-wise; everytime it looked like picking up it was as if it had felt better about the idea, and was deciding to hold autumn early; hopefully September will be better

Yes, this August has definitely been one of the worst I can remember. It seems to have been constant grey gloom. I was hoping for an Indian Summer, but the forecast for this week, if anything, is worse!
Your new header photo is lovely.

Wakeupscared hello and welcome (again!). That’s nice to know thanks.
I know just what you mean about trying to take photos of such insects.
Fingers crossed for a good autumn! Cheers.

nods – here’s hoping definitely (for a good autumn); I hope that the wet start we seem to have right at the moment is the worse of it… oh I just saw Chippy’s comment about catmint – I’ve some here and I’ve not gotten around to planting yet – but I’m most likely to start them off on a windowledge somewhere (probably with some more cat grass) and then move them to someplace more accessible to my cat (that he won’t destroy/knock everything over) to get to it 🙂

The banner photo is beautiful. I am partial to blue flowers but there is something extra nice about seeing a swath of them. When I was in Belgium for a time the days would often be gray and everyone longed for sunshine, but here, where its been so hot for so long a few gray days sound nice—and some rain! I had to laugh about your eating too many biscuits and drinking too much tea. That is just the kind of thing I would do if I had a lay-about day!

Wakeupscared if it continues to rain as it has I’ll start to reconsider turning the plot into a rice paddy!
I’ve known one or two cats like that! Cheers.

Beginninghere thanks! I think that these are among the best blue flowers thanks to their vivid colour.
Whatever it’s like where we are we often yearn for something different. I suppose that’s human nature!
It’s nice to do now and again, but I feel slightly guilty if I do it too often! xx

Lovely cornflowers Flighty, three feet tall you say, wow.
I love the blue (purple maybe) of Lobelia. When we used to garden a bit more than we do now, I had a couple of hanging baskets with trailing Lobelia in them.
And is it possible to have too much tea and biscuits ??? Maybe not I think… Hope you enjoyed your lazy day.

Lobelia is a good plant for hanging baskets and a nice blue.
Definitely not, but it’s important to pace yourself if indulging all day long! Cheers.

I really love the sunburst yellow of that flower, and the barely perceptible wasp inside. Stunning.
