A few favourites

Next Sunday’s Wild China, on BBC2 at 9.15pm, is 3/6. Tibet. I’m sure that it will be every bit as enjoyable to watch as the first two programmes have been. That’s especially so as one of the rare animals that will be featured is my favourite cat, the snow leopard.

Springwatch starts on Monday BBC2 at 8.00pm, and continues throughout the week. It goes without saying that it is among my favourite wildlife TV programmes. Don’t forget the webcams on the website, which include the infamous Heligan Gardens barn owls!

On the plot Monday afternoon I was pleased to see a blue tit on the peanut feeder little more than arm’s length away. I can identify these favourite birds but I’m not so good with bird sounds! That being so I will make a point of listening to A Guide to Woodland Birds on BBC Radio 4 Sunday at 2.45pm.

Readers of this blog will know that James Stewart is my favourite film star. He was born 100 years ago on the 20th May, and is number 3 in the American Film Institutes 50 Greatest Film Legends. Barry Norman wrote in the Radio Times that he was probably the most beloved star in cinema history.

I’m off for a cup of tea and a couple of plain digestive biscuits which you all know are another of my favourites!

Have a good weekend!

  1. JS is number 1 in my opinion – especially in Alfred Hitchcock films, It’s a Wonderful Life, The Philadelphia Story, Harvey etc etc etc

  2. It’s good to see springwatch coming around again – it’s one of the few things I look forward to on the tele…

… Jimmy Stewart! One of the best there has ever been I think – can’t believe he’d’ve been 100

    have a good day there

  3. The nature programs sound really interesting. I wish I could see the programme on the snow leopard especially.

…JS is a worldwide favorite. I hadn’t realized he rose to that rank in the military.

I think you have influenced me. Now I want a cup of tea!

  4. Glo the years seem to pass by ever quicker that’s for sure! That’s another good site about him.
We are indeed, and many of them are still shown regularly on TV which is good. xx

  5. Beginninghere I’m fascinated by them but I don’t think that it will get more than a small mention in the programme.
He was a pilot before WWII and then volunteered for active duty. There is a book ‘Jimmy Stewart – Bomber Pilot by Starr Smith’ all about this part of his life which is well worth reading.
I hope that you enjoyed that cup of tea! xx

  6. We have to talk about last weeks (Sunday) Wild China. It was amazing, it was wonderful. I loved seeing how different things are for them. How the old ways have stood the test of time. There is a ‘but’ coming….. I just didn’t feel good about the Fishing Cormorants. Now that was sad. I know that they have known no other but I’m afraid I went to bed dreaming about the poor cormorant fishing slaves.
The programme is brilliant though. I am fully caught up now and ready for Part 3.
    Springwatch! Woooooot.
Lovely telly watching Flighty. Thank you.

  7. Daffy we do indeed! I can understand your feelings but it’s a relationship that’s worked well for hundreds of years.
I’ve sat enthralled watching this series.
You’re welcome! It was nice to do what I felt was a good proper Thursday entry. xx

  8. yes, it’s worked well for the fisherman. Still no way to live though. Of course seeing the poor pig and goat being tied by the feet and carried over on the slip wire didn’t look too good either.
    .
I was pleased I managed to watch both episodes over the weekend. Watching the ploughing buffaloes and seeing that eggcarton of hills was amazing.

  9. You’ve put me in the mood for a good Jimmy Stewart movie! Well, with our crazy weather, it’s cold and chilly and perfect for a cuppa with a sweet something or other and a good movie. Happy weekend, Flighty. It’s a holiday weekend for us and (shhh) roomie’s b-day. We shall be grilling steaks.

  10. Nikki I’ve not been plotting since Monday and the forecast for the weekend is rain so it looks like I’ll be sofa flying as well.
Thanks, it’s a long weekend here as well!
I saw that you mentioned roomie’s birthday a few days ago so I’ve sent her an ecard.
    Enjoy the grilled steaks! xx

  11. Appropos nothing above. can someone explain to me why within the last few days we suddenly have all the local gardens FULL of starlings. At one time I was able to count nearly 20 in sight, on various trees and on the lawn. ….thought you might know from your allotment days.

Reminds me of the film ‘The Birds’

  12. She LOVED your card, Flighty. You’ve picked such a nice one 🙂 I suppose I like gloomy weather because we really don’t have that much of it. Makes me want to make soup and drink warm things. Roomie is out in the garage painting for a school project. Not a very cozy activity, but at least it’s not hot out there, as it would be if we were having our more usual weather.

  13. I am so looking forward to Springwatch, thanks for the reminder Flighty, not that I needed it, but thanks all the same! I do wish you would eat the whole packet of those plain digestives one of these days, in one go! x

  14. Nikki I’m so glad! The forecast here over the next few days is not good, lots of rain, so it looks like I’ll be sofa flying with a good book, cups of tea and some biscuits! xx

I don’t think that I could eat a whole packet in one go! If I did I’d need to use my builder’s mug for the tea! xx
