A real beauty!

On Olivia’s Baby Tag entry in the comments she challenged me to post a picture of the most beautiful aircraft in the world. I accepted with the proviso that it’d probably be a small selection rather than a single picture.

That was a couple of weeks ago and I’ve been thinking about it on and off since then. I have favourite aircraft but there’s no single type that I consider to be the most beautiful one so I may well do further entries on this.

Many people would consider Concorde to have that accolade, whilst others would chose the Spitfire. In their own way both are very worthy contenders and would certainly grace most peoples top ten, if not their personal number one.

One that I consider to be beautiful is often called the Rolls-Royce* of the skies. It is the Gulfstream IV executive jet. Both on the ground and in the air it looks right, having graced airports and skies around the world for over twenty years.

I’ve heard it called a timeless classic and a real beauty!

[* all Gulfstream I through V aircraft have been, and continue to be, powered by Rolls-Royce engines.]

  1. Wow, Flighty, I love that Spitfire shot with the water in the background. The Gulfstream in-the-air shot has a wonderful gleam. I think you’ve met the challenge well! Hope your weather’s cooperating for some allotment time. We had rather gray skies, but I still enjoyed doing some gardening chores. Minou was constantly at the door and/or the window crying to come out.

  2. Nikki it’s always good to find an air-to-air shot looking down on the aircraft like the Spitfire one. That Gulfstream sure is clean! Thanks.
It’s dry but rather cool so I’ll go there later this morning but may not do very much.
It looks like he’s wants to be an outdoor boy! xx

  3. :o) Good morning.
    Really nice pictures Flighty!
Sounds like a good idea, having a day not doing much… after I’ve done dinner I may ‘join you’ :o)
Still windy up here! I thought it may have eased today but its still blowing a hoolie! xx

  4. Daffy hello and thanks. The trouble is finding them as there are thousands which I could end up looking at!
I think that a nice relaxing day will do us good so ‘join away’.
It’s been windy here which is what is making it feel rather cold, but no where near as bad as there. Take care. xx

  5. Hi Flighty, as I can’t really comment on the beauty of your plane, I shall just comment on the beauty of my viola! Yes, the little faces are more like the colour purple, but viola blue is what the grower has named them, and who am I to argue! Have a good day, the sun is struggling to come out. x

  6. Louise hello! If I had to chose between the two it would be your viola! It’s such a happy looking flower isn’t it!
I think that even if the sun does come out it’ll stay cool due to the wind. I guess that means I’ll be spending the afternoon sofa flying rather than lawn lounging!
    Thanks, you too! xx
