I’ve just finished reading Grief Encounters by Stuart Pawson, which is the 12th book in the D.I.(Detective Inspector) Charlie Priest series.
I’ve read all the previous books and was really looking forward to this one. I certainly wasn’t disappointed and throughly enjoyed it from start to finish.
On the cover it says Perfect for a long winter afternoon with the rain beating down on the windows – Independent on Sunday. I couldn’t put it any better myself!
I can relate to Charlie Priest as he has a liking for KitKats. He keeps a stash of them in his desk drawer, and even shares them out with his team occasionally. I could work for a boss who does that!
As an aviation buff I have one very minor quibble with the book. In it Pawson writes The private charter Lear 55… There have never been any on the UK civil aircraft register so a Lear 45 would have been more appropriate. Thankfully this tiny hiccup in no way detracts from the story.
This is an excellent crime fiction novel and one that I have no hesitation in recommending to anyone who enjoys reading such books. Needless to say I’m now looking forward to the 13th in the series!
I love all the newer kitkats with the flavour added, a bit of mint or orange or even lemon I think I saw in one shop.
Glad you enjoyed the book, I’m surprised you have the time what with all the allotmenteering, the work etc. :o)
I’m reading Parkhurst Tales at the moment by Norman Parker. Its something different to what I normally read but a family member was a prison warder and so he knew of Norman Parker so I suppose I have a ‘triggered interest’ from stories I have been told.
Happy reading and happy kitkat eating :o)
.
Daffy I’ve gone over to the dark side as far as KitKats are concerned!
I always have time to read a good book, which is all too often at the expense of something else which I should be doing.
You too! xx

It’s always good when you look forward to a new book that it ACTUALLY meets your expectations. Glad you enjoyed it Flighty.
I’ve currently got three books on the go… the first is CASH, the Johnny Cash autobiography, which is a great read and very well written too, second, H2O – A biography of water, which is interesting and very revealing, and lastly, I’ve just started the Stephen Fry book, An Ode Less Travelled – Unlocking The Poet Within, which will hopefully improve my poetry a little !!
I love Kit Kats too Flighty, and would keep my stash in the fridge to keep them in perfect condition as I hate warm Kit Kats… but sadly, I don’t agree with Daffy… I can’t stand all those new fangled flavours, mint, orange… pah, humbug !!!
.
Blue Pixel it’s a bit of a let-down when a book you’ve been looking forward to reading is disappointing. This one was anything but I’m happy to say! H2O is on my list of books to read. Do let us know what you think of it.
That’s where I keep mine as well, and like you I don’t like the fancy ones! Cheers.

Well, I have disappointing comments for you today my friend. Firstly, I don’t eat much chocolate.
*ducks from flying objects being thrown by many bloggers*
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I don’t like it, it’s just not my first choice for snack food. I prefer salty thinks like potato chips or popcorn. I’m not a big desert person so cake or pies really don’t get eaten around my house either. But if I had to choose a bar too eat, it would be a KitKat or maybe a Wonderbar for all the peanut buttery goodness. Secondly, I sadly admit that I don’t do much reading…………at all! I couldn’t tell you the last time I actually read a book. Pathetic, I know. Do children’s books count?
.
Mylozmom your comment isn’t disappointing at all!
Like you I don’t eat much chocolate as I prefer biscuits! Fruit, such as apples, pears or bananas, would be better for both of us.
Of course children’s books count! I’m always looking at the ones on the shelf in the bookshop.

I’m a lot like Mylozmom. Given the chance to have dessert or eat more dinner, I’d rather have more dinner π But an occasional chocolate with a good cup of tea or coffee is fantastic. Glad you’re finding some great reading material, Flighty. I smiled at the Independent’s endorsement — I’d have to ignore as we simply don’t have enough rainy days!
.
Nikki given that choice I’d have to go for the pudding! And yes please to a chocolate with my cup of tea!
That was one of no less than three really excellent new crime novels I’ve read in the past couple of weeks. That means there’ll be none now for months! That endorsement was clearly written for the home market!

I’ve just finished reading Michael Crichton’s “Airframe” about an air disaster, but I still love those metal birds! I am very proud of one of my best friends from Uni because he left his job to pursue his dream to become a pilot and is currently training in the middle of Texas!
Now, I very much like the dark chocolate KitKat, but the milk
choc one, unfortunately, still tastes best with tea.
LOL@Nikki – yes, sometimes you’d have to sacrifice one of the 359 sunny days to curl up with a book!
.
Olivia that’s a good book which I must have read over ten years ago when it came out. Good on your friend for making his dream a reality.
So you prefer the dark side as well!
That’s lawn lounging rather than sofa flying, both of which are ideal for reading a good book. xx

Wow, I guess it just goes to prove how good your knowledge is when you can pick out the errors! Well done to you. You see, it pays to do good research. I would not be surprised if you found yourself being sought out to check on certain details as a research tool for specialist writers whose chosen subject is Aircraft? You could charge them a percentage of the book sales. :o)
(I’m sorry to go on but I so like the old way you did your comments… I miss seeing your lovely avatar on the comments section. :o)

Daffy I don’t always spot such errors, and it helped that I’d been looking at information, and photos, of all the various Learjets recently!
I have done some proof reading of aviation articles in the past
.
As for comments I’m reverting back to the old way just for you…actually I think that I prefer it as well. xx

When on my travels I noticed many different varieties of KitKat which we don’t have over here, I wish I had taken note of what they were now! x

I love crime fiction and am always looking out for new authors. I hope I like it – the thought of having 13 to read from a good author is to thrilling for words. Let it rain, I say!

Ellie hello! I’m sure that you will, do let me know once you’ve read it.
I’ve also just read Cold in Hand by John Harvey and The Price of Darkness by Graham Hurley. Both are really excellent crime novels which again I have no hesitation in recommending.
