Spitfire Women

I always treat myself to a non-fiction hardback book for Christmas.

This year it was a really easy choice to make as all the reviews for spitfire-women.jpg have been first-rate.

The excellent Aeroplane Monthly magazine made it Book of the Month in the December issue, rating it five roundels which equals absolutely outstanding.

Real role models – the women pilots of WWII is a very good Philobiblon review.

Although it is an aviation book it is more about the women themselves and, as such, I’m sure will appeal to a much wider readership than just aviation buffs.

I look forward to settling down over the holiday period to read this book, with the help of a cup of tea and some biscuits of course!

  1. Sounds like a great reading, Flighty. Is it sold at your bookshop? After all the expense of cat treatments, I’m giving myself time with… the cat!

  2. Nikki yes there’s a couple of copies on the shelf and we’ve sold some as well. Needless to say I’ve been browsing through one during quiet periods!
I’m not surprised, but I guess that you’ll both welcome that! xx

  4. Hi Flighty, what do you mean by ‘some biscuits’ are you good and just put a couple on a plate or do you tuck in to most of the packet! I was intrigued to know that you work in a bookshop, how lovely, do you get time to muse through the books. Great treat for yourself, a book of which the subject you really enjoy and as you say, not just aviation but very interesting to see into the lives of the women too. x

  5. Louise I’m not good always, especially if it’s plain chocolate digestives!
I work part time in the bookshop, and yes if it’s quiet then I do book browse.
I think that this year’s choice is as good as it gets. xx

  6. Ah, I was wondering if you’d been getting a personal preview of your present 🙂 last year, I got my roomie a book she’d long wanted called Cats in the Sun with photography by Hans Silvester of mostly wild cats living on the Greek islands. A lovely picture book.

  7. Nikki I’d seen some of the reviews, then I browsed one in the bookshop. There isn’t any other book that seems anywhere near as good that I would buy so it really chose itself!
That cat book sounds wonderful, with I guess some lovely sunny scenery as well as the cats.
