Simply superb

My interest in aviation has waned somewhat over the past year and I now do few related blog entries.

However I do still look at numerous images on sites such as Airliners.net and occasionally see one that seems to be just about as good as it gets.

I’m sure that you’ll agree this Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress is simply superb.

It reminds me of the famous Memphis Belle which was the subject of both a 1944 documentary film and a 1990 fictional film.

Have a good weekend!

  1. I don’t know if your passion has waned, I think you have just had so much other stuff going on. You are so knowledgeable about the subject and it’s infectious…
I loved both of the photos, The Flying Fortress is certainly something!
I’ve had a little look and I found this article on The Flying Fortress which was as good as Wikpedia I think.

well, I think you will like it, it’s a great site too. Thanks for this great entry, I’ve missed your aviation entries and I know diddly squat about planes! (actually, that’s not true, I know more now than I did before your entry! ;o)
hope the links work ok when you copy and paste. :o)

  2. Daffy a bit of both probably! I’ll try and do an ‘Sky high’ entry a week, or thereabouts, from now on as I’ve got plenty of good pictures bookmarked.
Both links work fine. I love the photo and I’ll read the article tomorrow. Thanks for those.
    You too! xx

  3. Hi Flighty, we live on the outskirts of Shoreham Airport in West Sussex, I like to see and hear the planes flying overhead. I love the airshow which is held every year in September, we either watch as much as we can from our garden or visit the show, this year we visited and had a great day, my fascination lies with the modern fighters ie Eurofighter, but I also love the WW2 aircraft. Unfortunately this year, during a simulated WW2 airfield attack a hurricane went down killing the pilot, it was very poignant to see the remaining aircraft flying back in missing pilot formation. x

  4. Louise hello! When I was a lot younger I often went to Shoreham Airport as my favourite aunt lived right by it. As you say it was sad to lose the Hurricane and it’s pilot at this year’s event.
It’s interesting that you like modern fighters as another ‘Lawn lounger’ Midwifemuse likes the Tornado! I’ll have to do an entry on the Eurofighter Typhoon for you!
My own favourites are mostly real aeroplanes, that’s ones with propellers! xx

  5. There was an aviation entry on a regular basis,
Until you discovered your own little oasis.
A place where you could you set a seed.
A place to create and where birds could feed.
To start and grow from nothing at any rate.
A place where you could happily cultivate.
A place that is now in your heart to the core.
That very special place is plot one twenty four.

I’m worried that I may have peaked too early today as it’s not even 9am! :o)

    Have a lovely weekend.

  6. Daffy that is wonderful! I know that you’ve not titled it but I think it should be called ‘Plot 124’. I’m sure that there can very few allotment plots that have their own poem! Thanks so much.
I think that it was a brilliant way to start the weekend. Do enjoy the rest of it.
Thanks also for the lovely card that was waiting for me when I got home. xx

And that spiffy poem from Daffy – you are outdoing yourself, girl! And not even 9am! You amaze me.

  8. Nikki as you say the shiny detail is just great!
Daffy has done me proud with that poem hasn’t she.
I hope that your rose hedge trimming has gone okay. Enjoy the rest of the weekend. xx
