Just as an fyi: I will not continue to crosspost my (rare*) entries to LJ anymore.
I'm not quite sure yet, whether I'll completely delete my LJ, just delete all the entries or just lock them down, but I will not crosspost to it anymore. I haven't decided yet.

For anyone who is also on DW and who wants to know, my user name there is fleurrochard as well (as it is on Twitter, Tumblr and AO3).

*Now is actually the time I'll be most active since the NHL playoffs start today and I'll be doing some baking. ;)

THE PENGUINS WON THE STANLEY CUP! :D :D :D

...ok, over a month ago, but I am still thrilled! :D

seidenstrasse wanted to know which of the recipes I baked I liked best, and while I admit to a special fondness of the ones that resulted in a win, tastewise it's a bit difficult to crown one special favourite.
So I thought a round-up of all of them and my thoughts about their taste would be in order. :)

In order of baking:

  • Kunitzer Eierkuchen/Kunitz' pancakes for Chris Kunitz: Tasted nice, but not spectacular, pretty much like a regular pancake, and since you have to deepfry them, they're a bit of a hassle. So probably not a repeat recipe. (Also resulted in a loss, so not even a repeat for superstitious reasons! *g*)

  • Whoopie Pies for Brian Dumoulin: These were really tasty and I might make them again (and adjust the amount of filling in the recipe, since I got more Whoopie Pies from the recipes than it said and had a least a third of filling left over).

  • Butter Tarts for Sidney Crosby: VERY sweet, but really delicious when eaten right from the fridge. (Much too sweet for me when eaten at room temperature.) I might also have filled them a bit too high, since some of them bubbled up a bit high and were difficult to get out of the muffin pan. Not sure yet whether I'll bake them again. (But yes, directly from the fridge they were VERY good!)

  • Mazarintårta for Oskar Sundqvist: Delicious, pretty easy to make, and had been a regular bake in my family before, so definitely a repeat bake. *g* (Also, a winning bake, so no reason to not repeat it!)

  • Michigan Cherry Muffins for Bryan Rust: Aaaah, the first of my four (!) Michigan bakes, and frankly my least favourite. Maybe it was because I used canned cherries (there weren't any fresh ones, and cherries really seem to be the thing to go with in Michigan), but they also all sank to the bottom and the whole thing was a bit tough to eat. Not horribly tastewise (you could absolutely eat them!), but certainly not a repeat bake. (Also, no win.)

  • Sugar Pie/tarte au sucre for Pascal Dupuis: Nice taste, somewhat similar recipe as the butter tarts, but much less sweet for some reason. Bit bland for me, but that might have been that specific recipe (there are so many!)

  • Cherry Chocolate Chip Cookies for Jeff Zatkoff: Michigan again, and I'll definitely bake those cookies again, they were delicious! (My coworkers all agreed too!)

  • Flachswickel for Tom Kühnhackl: VERY good, and also easy to make, I'll definitely make them again! (Best on the first day like many things you bake with yeast, but that wasn't really a problem...)

  • Michigan Pasties for Steve Oleksy: Michigan #3, and a savoury bake for a change. I'll be making them again, I'll just add more salt and spices to the pastry and filling, they were a bit bland, but I can see them as being really tasty!

  • Nanaimo Bars for Justin Schultz: They tasted really good; not sure whether I'll make them again though. (I do usually prefer recipes I can make in one go, not make and bake first layer, chill, make second layer, chill, make third layer, chill... so we'll see!)

  • Maple-walnut biscuits for Marc-Andre Fleury: Made by Penny! Eaten by me when I visited her! They were very delicious and I need to ask her for the recipe...

  • “Starbucks” Michigan Cherry Oat Bar inspired cake for Ian Cole: Michigan #4 (how do we have so many of them?), and omnomnom. Definitely a repeatworthy bake and also not that hard to make. (Ok, you had to make a filling, and I am glad my Mom was there, because the recipe wanted me to cook it until it had thickened to regular cherry pie filling consistency, and since I've never eaten/baked cherry pie before... She had though, so that helped. *g*)

  • Blueberry and Lemon Tea Loaf for Tristan Jarry: Baked together with Penny! It was a nice cake? Unfortunately all the blueberries sank to the bottom - it still tasted nice, but I do prefer other cakes.

  • So, this was fun, and tasty, and successful (Penny's last bake - vanilla crescents for Dominik Simon! - did get us the Cup, yay!), but I am glad Playoffs are over, because it was also a bit stressfull.
    But still: STANLEY CUP!

(I also might go to Tom Kühnhackl's Cup day on August 16 in landshut - let's see whether I can get the day off. :D)

PS: IT'S JULY 31 AND PHIL KESSEL IS A STANLEY CUP CHAMPION!!! :D!!!

...but the Penguins aren't in the Playoffs ALL year, so.... *g*
(And omg am I glad playoffs aren't all year, that shit is exhausting even for me, and I'm not even playing!)

I will do a round-up of the (successful!) playoff baking (seidenstrasse wanted to know what I liked best!) - maybe on the weekend?, but today something else.

I have a lot of postcards.
    A LOT.
Pictures of art, places I've been, quotes - A LOT.

So, would anyone like a postcard? With a random image, drawn from my stash?

Leave me your address in a comment (will be screened!) or send me a mail to Fleur78[at]gmx[dot]de, and you will get one! :D!

ETA: If there are kinds of images you really do NOT want to get, feel absolutely free to tell me, I will not ask, I will simply comply.

    Okay. *BREATHES*

So my last bake was sucessfull! (And delicious!) And there might happening something tonight! Maybe!
And also I'm actually at Penny's right now, so we're doing a joint bake. :D

Our player today wears the #35, and is our most bb goalie: Tristan Jarry! Awwww

He is from Surrey, British Columbia, Canada and we baked a Blueberry and Lemon Tea Loaf from the Blueberry Council of British Columbia for him.

While Penny's maple-walnut biscuits for Marc-Andre Fleury looked absolute delicious, they didn't bring enough luck. Let's hope we can turn that around!

My player today wears the #28 plays defense, is a nerd, and is also one of my favourites!: Ian Cole! <3

    Ian Cole hockey action picture
He is from Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA - how do we have so many players from Michigan, and how do I keep getting them? - and I found something new with cherries again: a “Starbucks” Michigan Cherry Oat Bar inspired cake*! 🍒 (It also includes cornflakes, which were invented by the Kellogg brothers - in Michigan. :D )
*[in cake form because I lack the needed square cake pan.]

Penny's kladdkaka for Patric Hörnqvist started us off in the final round (!!!) nicely, Let's hope I can continue that!

My player today wears the #4, plays defense, and came to us in a trade from the Oilers this year: Justin Schultz! He seems happy here (and plays pretty well!)

Justin Schultz on the ice, grinning

He is from Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, and so I'm making a typical BC treat: Nanaimo Bars!

    Ok, this is nervewracking!

So, my bake wasn't a lucky one, but Penny's Tourtiere for Jean-Sebastian Dea was. So we have a tied series. Again.
    *BREATHES*

So my player today is #65, Steve Oleksy and he's a Michigan boy - again! (I keep getting them!) (Chesterfield, Michigan, USA, to be specific.)

    Steve Oleksy hockey action picture

For a change I'm going for a savoury bake today: Michigan Pasties! (Pastry filled with meat and veggies.)

My cookies last time were lucky, unfortunately Penny's keks for Evgeni Malkin were just almost lucky enough, so we have a tied series again.
Let's hope home ice today helps!

I also had home ice with my bake today - my player today wears the #34, plays right wing, is one of our bb Pens again, and the only German player on the team, Tom Kühnhackl!

    Tom Kühnhackl hockey action picture

He's from Landshut, Germany, so I baked a typical Southern German treat: Flachswickel! (A kind of yeast bun.)

breakfast table with what looks like twisted yeast buns, covered in sugar.

Yeah, that round didn't start great (and seriously, I could do without other teams trying to kill my team ANYTIME), but Penny's Connecticut Spice Cookies for Nick Bonino - and the Pens, I guess ;) - turned that around and we have a tied series right now.
Let's hope we can continue successful from here!

My player today wears the #37, our third goalie, Jeff Zatkoff! (He actually started us of in the playoffs, and he did a really good job!)

    Jeff Zatkoff hockey action picture

He's from Detroit, Michigan, USA, so I went for a typical American baked treat flavoured by a typical Michigan thing: Cherry Chocolate Chip Cookies!

So my last bake didn't put an end to round 2, but Penny's mixed berry muffins for Derrick Pouliot did and we're in round 3! \o/

So I have new player today: #9, played right wing for Sid, Pascal Dupuis!
    Played, because he retired earlier in the season due to health reasons. ;_;
But! He is still officially on the roster! He is apparently still a big presence in the locker room, supporting the team, cheering them on on home games, so yeah! Still part of the team!

    Pascal Dupuis hockey action picture

He's from Laval, Québec, Canada, and let me tell you: finding a typical baked good for Québec was not difficult - everywhere I looked: Sugar Pie! Sugar Pie!
Or well, tarte au sucre. :)

My last bake seemed to have brought luck, and Penny's oatmeal and raisin cookie cake for Beau Bennett was even more lucky and the Pens are leading the series 3-1 now. \o/
But they aren't through yet, so let's hope today's bake is lucky, too. :)

My player today is #17, playing right wing, Bryan Rust!

    Bryan Rust hockey action picture.

He's from Pontiac, Michigan, USA, and apparently cherries are a big thing in Michigan - which is why I baked Michigan Cherry Muffins.

Well, Sid proved to be... particular (are we surprised?), so yeah, they didn't win with my last bake, but Penny made white chocolate and cranberry cookies for Ben Lovejoy and the Pens tied the series! \o/

My next player is #40, playing center, one of our bb penguins, Oskar Sundqvist!

    Oskar Sundqvist hockey action picture.

He's from Boden, Sweden and I decided to bake mazarintårta.

I am glad to report that my last bake didn't proof unlucky (shutout for Murray!), and with Penny's pulla for Olli Mattaa they won game 5, therefore the series and went through to round 2! \o/

The player I got for this game is #87, the Captain, Sidney Crosby!*

    Sidney Crosby hockey action picture.

He's from Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada, so I baked something that is typical for that region: butter tarts!

So, my first bake wasn't so lucky ( D:), but Penny's Badger State muffins for Phil Kessel were more successful - let's hope I can follow that!

My second player for Playoff Baking is #8, playing defense, Brian Dumoulin!

    Brian Dumoulin hockey action picture.

He's from Biddeford, Maine, USA, so I present to you the official Maine state treat: Whoopie Pies! (Apparently they are called gobs in the Pittsburgh region?)

[personal profile] pennyplainknits made platz for Eric Fehr, and the Pens won their first game against the Rangers! \o/

My first player for Playoff Baking is #14, wearing the 'A', Chris Kunitz!

    Chris Kunitz hockey action picture.

He's from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, so I was looking for a typical SK recipe - apparently typical things there are saskatoon berries and chokecherries. Bit difficult to find those in Germany!

So, I was trying to find out something about his heritage, and well, his name makes it pretty probable some part of his family came from Germany sometime.
And then my mother remembered a recipe in one of our baking books!

    Kunitzer Eierkuchen = Kunitz' pancakes!

No, I did not make up that name!

Picture of the recipe of Kunitzer Eierkuchen.

    And here's the result:

three deepfried little pancakes dusted with icing sugar on a black plate.

They do not exactly look like the picture in the baking book - ahem - but I've never deepfried anything before, and they DID taste well. :D

    Go Pens!

No idea what I'm doing here but somewhat intrigued? Go here, find out more and maybe join in? :D

So what have you been up to?
Work, decluttering the flat (I'm mostly focusing on clothes right now since I plan to get a wardrobe), eyeing stories for podficcing. Which ideally will lead to actual podficcing. *coughs*

Major life changes? Same old same old?
Nope, nothing big. Still like my job (though after 1.5 years in it I've seen the less great sides as well - but they're still so much better than the old job!)

What fandom are you in/do you spend most of your time in?
Right now Hockey (mostly Penguins, sometimes Stars, occasionally random stories I see on Tumblr) and Kingsman (though the general quality of fic there is less high than in Hockey - it is a newer fandom though.)
Also Check, Please, which is just adorable and has some nice fics. :)

Sense8 was awesome, but doesn't really have that much fic - also, I'm not that interested in fic there, I'm mostly interested in the show itself. (Which will get a second season, YAY!)

Where do you hang out online?
Mostly Twitter and Tumblr. I still read my flists on LJ and DW, but have been very amiss posting and commenting wise.

    What are you reading?
I just got Stories of the Raksura Vol.2, so I'll start that soon. :D

    What are you watching?
Leverage (almost done with season 1), and I've started watching Brooklyn 99 (only 1 episode so far), which seems entertaining!

    What are you making?
There are some podfics in the work (... just gotta make them, right? Lalala....), I'm (slowly) working on a painting, I'm editing texts for the programme of my choirs next concert, and there will probably be 1 or 2 jams in the near future.

What are you squeeing about today?
Have been squeeing about Sense8, and I expect squeeing about the Raksura book.
Also, Sidney Crosby. And Ninjaomelet's adorable Penguin!version of him. <3

If you could rope old fandom friends into a new fandom, it would be.....
The Raksura books by Martha Wells are AWESOME!
As is Ring of Swords by Eleanor Arnason. So good.

I should really watch/read/dive into _______ and then come talk to you about it!
Please refer to the books mentioned above. Read them. Come to me and let's squee about them.
    :D

What else is on your mind?
What to do on my birthday in one and half weeks (September 5). It's on a Saturday and I am off work for the whole week, but I don't really have plans so far... (I mean, will I have an enjoyable day? Sure. Will I do anything special? Kinda doubtful. Oh well...)

We're at game 5 of the series and well, let's hope the outcome of today's game means another game for the Pens.

For the last game, [personal profile] pennyplainknits made German Cream Puffs (or Windbeutel) in swan shape for Christian Ehrhoff. They look very delicious!

My player today is Ian Cole, another defenseman.

    Paul Martin hockey action picture

He's from Michigan and I've chosen Cream Cheese Kolacky for him (apparently Michigan got lots of Polish immigrants). Let's hope they bring some luck!

Two cookies fillwed with raspberry/strawberry/blackberry jam and one cookie filled with apple jelly

    Go Pens!
