BME Group

BME klantcase

Building Materials Europe (BME Group) is one of Europe’s leading distributors of building materials. Through a strong network of local brands across six countries, BME offers a ‘One Stop Shop’ solution for small to medium-sized contractors and installers, primarily active in the residential and renovation markets.

Exploring their options, BME looked for a standard transport management solution that met their needs of being scalable, flexible, and configurable for use across multiple countries.

The challenge: complexity driven by international variation

BME Group operates within a complex logistics structure, with different requirements and workflows in each country. Local teams use the same software tools, but their processes vary. There was a clear need for a single, central system that could be deployed per country or brand to manage transport orders, dispatch drivers, and monitor deliveries.

Operations of local organizations demanded complex solutions:

  • Real-time insight into the status of trips
  • Control over delivery execution
  • Integration of local processes, such as scanning goods upon delivery
  • Efficient communication with drivers
  • One centralized platform that operates across the organization, while remaining configurable per location

The solution: a flexible TMS as the foundation

FleetGO delivers a Transport Management System with a standardized structure, yet flexible enough to be adapted to the specific requirements of each location. This combination of standardization and customization proved essential for a successful implementation within an international organization like BME Group. The software is built in a modular way, allowing local processes to be maintained while still working within a single, unified system.

The FleetGO system offers, among other things:

  • Order and trip management
  • Route planning and optimization
  • Driver communication via a mobile app
  • Real-time tracking and proof of delivery
  • Scanning functionality for goods
  • Integration with on-board computers
  • Customer portals and API integrations

Because each country has its own processes and preferences, the TMS allows for country- or brand-specific configurations. This includes variations in activity types, local workflows, and unique scanning procedures.

Expertise and customization at an international level

The implementation was supported by FleetGO’s international team. Their in-depth knowledge of logistics processes across different markets ensured that local requirements could be quickly translated into practical, configurable solutions within the existing system.

The close collaboration and continuous alignment between both parties were crucial to the success of the project. By working iteratively, the system could be rolled out in phases and adjusted based on real-world experience and feedback from the local organizations.

International collaboration with local flexibility

BME operates through various Operating Companies (OPCOs), each with its own ways of working and customer expectations. FleetGO addresses this by not only delivering software, but also providing business consultants who speak the local team’s native language. This is made possible by FleetGO’s international presence.

For the OPCOs, this means that implementations and training are not only executed successfully from a technical perspective, but also delivered in the right language and cultural context. As a result, collaboration runs more smoothly and new functionalities are adopted more quickly.

The result: control, efficiency, and room for growth

With the implementation of FleetGO TMS, BME Groups Operating Companies now operate with:

  • Continuous visibility into trip execution
  • Real-time insight into deliveries and customer status per country and region
  • More efficient planning with reduced error margins
  • Efficiency gains through faster follow-up of deliveries
  • More sustainable transport through route optimization
  • Scalability across multiple countries and departments

For example, the system has enabled the in-house planning department to gain immediate insight into customer availability, the correct scheduling of deliveries, and the status of drivers. In addition, the system provides a solid foundation for further growth and innovation. New functionalities can easily be added based on changing needs or insights from day-to-day operations.
