Building Codes Enforcement Playbook

To help code enforcement professionals with everyday responsibilities, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) created the Building Codes Enforcement Playbook. The Playbook serves to improve both building administration and code enforcement within jurisdictions to ensure compliance with modern codes, accelerate recovery and support long-term mitigation goals.
Section 2.2 of the Playbook identifies Staffing, Training, Professional Development, and Mentorship and states, “The administration of building codes begins with having a dedicated and capable team.”
The International Firestop Council is dedicate to this objective, and provides free, in-person, firestop inspection and plan review training to AHJ’s and building code officials anywhere in the country. This training covers…
-
Fundamentals of Firestopping – Why firestopping is required, relevant IBC code requirements, and how firestop systems are tested, rated, and documented in UL fire resistance directories.
-
System Types and Applications – Covers through-penetration, membrane penetration, fire-resistant joint systems, perimeter containment, and duct enclosure systems.
-
Design and Installation Practices – Options for installation, the role of engineering judgments, text changes, and IFC-recommended inspection techniques to ensure compliance.
-
Inspection and Code Oversight – Special inspections and inspectors, identifying common installation problems, plan review and inspection process recommendations, and code requirements.

All of our training seminars are approved for ICC CEU credits.
