Star Trek Into Darkness is not my Star Trek. I have to keep remembering that because Abrams has used the alternate universe trick to alter canon. I grew up on Star Trek and while I'm a Star Wars gal at heart, Star Trek figures prominently in my childhood. I don't like when my childhood memories are toyed with so this AU mumbo jumbo gets me right in those memories. That being said, my family ventured out last night to see Trek's latest incarnation and I did enjoy the ride. No spoilers here but Abrams does a pretty fair job of pulling old and new together. There are lots of nods to the original series plus the stealing of a scene that I'm pretty sure rubs me the wrong way but I'm still parsing it all in my head. Overall it was a fun movie but I'm not sure I'm ready to accept it as a Star Trek movie. The villian though? Well, we went mainly to see Benedict Cumberbatch since my daughter is a raging fan girl these days. He makes an excellent villian, which is a nice complement to his Sherlock portrayal, but it kicks me right in the childhood feels again. I kept mubling "NOT CANON" under my breath throughout the movie and I don't think I I'll be able to shake the feeling that Abrams has messed with my memories. This does not bode well for the new Star Wars movie with him at the helm. But since I referred to the villian as Bellybomber Cummerbund after the movie, Bree says I am now an official member of the Cumbercollective, his fan base. I guess I still have fan girl cred. :)
Speaking of facebook, I'm the friend of Mary's who commented over there. I just don't like putting my LJ name out there on public posts which Facebook might decide to share with God only knows who.
I really don't care about the LJ move since I use it infrequently ar best. The servers do seem to have msoved and there are serious concerns about security that are riling people up.

"You cannot reason with unreasonable people". Dunno who originally said it, but I try to bear it in mind.
(Of course, the only way to discover if they are unreasonable people, is to try…
